A reliable, efficient, and easy-to-use chainsaw is a must-have tool for many homeowners and professionals. Stihl is a renowned brand that manufactures high-quality chainsaws designed to cater to the needs of most users. Starting a chainsaw can sometimes be challenging, especially for first-time users. To help make the process more manageable, here are four simple ways to start your Stihl chainsaw.

1. Using the cold start method:

The cold start method should be used when starting the chainsaw for the first time during the day or after it has cooled down.

– Place your chainsaw on a stable surface and ensure that the chain brake is engaged.

– Press down on the decompression valve for easier cranking.

– Depress the fuel bulb a few times until you see fuel in it.

– Move the choke lever or master control lever to its starting position (cold start position).

– Hold the front handle with one hand, while pulling the starter rope with your other hand.

– After two or three pulls of the starter rope, move the choke lever to its semi-starting position and pull the starter rope again.

– The engine should now start running. Allow it to warm up for about 30 seconds before moving on to your intended task.

2. Using the warm start method:

The warm start method should be used when your chainsaw has been running but was turned off briefly.

– Move the choke lever or master control lever to its warm start position.

– Hold on to the front handle with one hand and pull the starter rope with your other hand.

– Your chainsaw should easily restart using this method.

3. Starting with an electric starter:

Some Stihl chainsaws come equipped with an electric starter, which simplifies and speeds up the starting process.

– Make sure that your chainsaw is connected to a power source.

– Engage the chain brake, and press the decompression valve if your chainsaw features one.

– Simply press the start button to fire up your chainsaw.

4. Drop starting a Stihl chainsaw:

Warning: This method is risky and should only be attempted by experienced users.

– Hold the rear handle of the chain saw with your right hand while your left hand firmly grasps the top handle.

– Depress the throttle trigger and hold it in place as you lift the chainsaw upwards.

– Keeping your right arm fully extended, allow the weight of the chainsaw to pull the starter cord downwards, starting the engine.

Following these methods, you should have no problem starting your Stihl chainsaw for any task at hand. Remember to follow safety guidelines provided in your owner’s manual, wear proper protective gear, and always keep your equipment well-maintained to ensure maximum performance and longevity.
