4 Ways to Reset Your Computer

Introduction:

In today’s fast-paced world, computers have become an essential part of our daily lives. However, there might come a time when your computer starts acting up, or you may want to start fresh with a clean slate. In such cases, resetting your computer can help restore its performance and functionality. This article will discuss four ways to reset your computer that you can choose from depending on the specific need or situation.

1.Soft Reset:

A soft reset is the easiest and least invasive method for resetting your computer. It involves simply restarting your computer, which can help in fixing minor issues like unresponsive applications and slow performance. To perform a soft reset, you can either click on the Start button > Power > Restart or press CTRL + ALT + DEL and select “Restart.”

2.System Restore:

System Restore is another handy option to reset your computer, especially when you start facing issues after installing new software or drivers. Using this feature, you can restore your computer to an earlier state without losing any personal files or data. To do this, follow these steps:

– Type “Create a restore point” in the Windows search bar and press Enter.

– Click on the “System Restore” button.

– Follow the prompts and choose a restore point created before you started experiencing issues.

3.Factory Reset:

Factory reset erases all data and reinstalls the operating system, bringing your computer back to its original factory settings. This process is useful if you’re planning to sell your device or are facing severe performance issues that other methods failed to solve. To perform a factory reset:

– In Windows 10/11, go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery.

– Under “Reset this PC,” click on the “Get started” button.

– Choose whether you want to keep or remove personal files and then select “Restore factory settings.”

4.Clean Install:

A clean install is the most thorough method of resetting your computer. It involves removing everything, including the operating system, and then reinstalling it from scratch. A clean install can be helpful if you’re dealing with persistent issues or wish to have a completely fresh start. You’ll need a USB drive or DVD with a copy of your desired Windows version for this method. To perform a clean install:

– Backup your important files and data to an external drive or the cloud.

– Create bootable media with the required Windows version.

– Restart your computer and change the boot order in BIOS/UEFI to load from the bootable media.

– Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the clean install.

Conclusion:

Resetting your computer can help solve various issues and improve its performance. Depending on your situation, you can choose from these four methods: soft reset, system restore, factory reset, or clean install. Always make sure to backup any important data before performing any reset option to prevent data loss. With these options at hand, resetting your computer should no longer feel like a daunting task.
