Introduction:

A Known Traveler Number (KTN) is a valuable asset for frequent travelers, providing expedited security screening at airports in the United States. This unique number is attainable through various trusted traveler programs such as TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, NEXUS, and SENTRI. In this article, we will guide you through 4 ways to obtain a KTN and enjoy the benefits of these time-saving programs.

1. TSA PreCheck:

TSA PreCheck is a program offered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) which grants travelers access to faster security lines for domestic flights at participating airports. To apply for TSA PreCheck, follow these steps:

– Visit the official TSA PreCheck website and complete the online application.

– Pay the $85 application fee (valid for 5 years).

-Schedule an appointment at an enrollment center to undergo fingerprinting and provide identity documentation.

– If approved, you will receive your Known Traveler Number within two to three weeks.

2. Global Entry:

Global Entry is a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that offers expedited clearance for pre-approved travelers arriving in the United States. In addition to faster customs processing, Global Entry members also get TSA PreCheck benefits. To apply for Global Entry, follow these steps:

– Complete an online application on the Trusted Traveler Program website.

– Pay the $100 non-refundable application fee (valid for 5 years).

– Attend an in-person interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center after receiving conditional approval.

– Upon approval, you will receive your KTN along with your Global Entry card.

3. NEXUS:

NEXUS is a joint Canada-United States program designed to expedite border crossings for pre-approved travelers between both countries. NEXUS membership includes access to faster airport security lines with TSA PreCheck and expedited customs clearance with Global Entry. To apply for NEXUS, follow these steps:

– Visit the Trusted Traveler Program website and complete the online application.

– Pay the $50 non-refundable application fee (valid for 5 years).

– Attend an in-person interview at a NEXUS Enrollment Center after receiving conditional approval.

– Upon approval, you will receive your KTN along with your NEXUS card.

4. SENTRI:

The Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) is a program that allows expedited clearance for pre-approved travelers entering the United States from Mexico. SENTRI membership also includes TSA PreCheck and Global Entry benefits. To apply for SENTRI, follow these steps:

– Complete an online application on the Trusted Traveler Program website.

– Pay the $122.25 non-refundable application fee (valid for 5 years).

– Attend an in-person interview at a SENTRI Enrollment Center after receiving conditional approval.

– Upon approval, you will receive your KTN along with your SENTRI card.

Conclusion:

Obtaining a Known Traveler Number through any of these trusted traveler programs can significantly reduce waiting times at airports and borders, providing a more enjoyable travel experience. Evaluate your travel needs and choose the most suitable program to apply for your KTN. Safe travels!
