4 Ways to Fold Long Sleeve Shirts

Folding long sleeve shirts is an essential skill that can help you keep your wardrobe neat and organized. Properly folded shirts not only make your closet look tidy but also prevent wrinkles and save space. In this article, we will explore four ways to fold long sleeve shirts so you can choose the method that suits your needs the best.

1. The Classic Fold

The classic fold is a tried-and-true method that works well for most long sleeve shirts, regardless of the fabric type.

Step 1: Lay the shirt face down on a flat surface with the sleeves extended.

Step 2: Fold one side of the shirt inwards, bringing the sleeve towards the center. Make sure the fold is parallel to the centerline of the shirt.

Step 3: Fold the sleeve back out, so it lays flat on top of the folded portion of the shirt.

Step 4: Repeat with the other side and sleeve.

Step 5: Fold the bottom half of the shirt up to meet the top half.

Now your shirt is neatly folded in a classic style!

2. The Folding Board Technique

This method uses a folding board to achieve neat and consistent folds every time.

Step 1: Place your long sleeve shirt face down on a folding board.

Step 2: Follow any guiding lines or markers on your folding board to fold both sides inwards and fold each sleeve back on top.

Step 3: Flip up or slide out any folding flaps per your board’s instructions.

Step 4: Fold up your shirt’s bottom edge, using the folding board as a guide.

Using a folding board takes all guesswork out of folding your long sleeve shirts!

3. The Rolling Method

Rolling your long sleeve shirts is an excellent space-saving technique that also minimizes wrinkles, making it perfect for packing into suitcases or small storage solutions.

Step 1: Lay the shirt face up on a flat surface with the sleeves extended.

Step 2: Fold each sleeve inwards, making them lie flat against the body of the shirt. You can tuck them slightly under the shirt body if you’d like.

Step 3: Begin rolling from the top of the shirt downwards, keeping your roll tight and even.

Step 4: Once rolled, you can secure it with a rubber band or place it directly into your storage area.

The rolling method is a wrinkle-saver when you’re short on space!

4. The KonMari Fold

The KonMari Fold, popularized by organization guru Marie Kondo, creates a self-standing, compact fold perfect for storing shirts upright in drawers and shelves.

Step 1: Lay your long sleeve shirt face up on a flat surface.

Step 2: Fold one side of the shirt inwards, bringing the sleeve towards the centerline.

Step 3: Fold the sleeve again towards the opposite side of the shirt.

Step 4: Repeat with the other side and sleeve.

Step 5: Take the bottom edge of the shirt and fold it up about three-quarters of the way to create a compact rectangle.

Step 6: One last fold brings that bottom edge upwards to meet just below the neckline.

Now your shirts will stand neatly upright in any storage space!

No matter which folding technique you choose, remember to always smooth out any wrinkles or creases before folding your long sleeve shirts. This will prevent permanent wrinkles from forming and keep your wardrobe looking fresh and tidy. Happy folding!
