4 Ways to Extract Juice from an Onion

Onions are a vital ingredient in many recipes, but did you know that their juice holds several potential health benefits? Rich in antioxidants, onion juice has been known to help reduce inflammation and promote hair growth. In this article, we’ll explore four methods to extract this nutrient-packed elixir from the humble onion.

1. Manual Method:

This simple method requires only your hands and some elbow grease. To begin, start by peeling off the outer skin of a fresh onion. Then, cut the onion in half and grate it into fine pieces using a grater. Place the grated onion in a clean cloth or cheesecloth, and squeeze out the juice using your hands. Make sure to squeeze as much liquid as possible.

2. Blender Method:

For an even easier approach, use a blender or food processor. Begin by peeling and chopping the onion into smaller pieces. Add the pieces into the blender or food processor and blend until you achieve a smooth puree consistency. Pour this mixture through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a bowl or container to separate the juice from the pulp.

3. Juicer Method:

If you have a juicer at home, it can be used to efficiently extract the juice from an onion with minimal effort. Start by peeling and chopping the onion into manageable pieces that will fit in your juicer’s feeding tube. Following your juicer’s instructions, turn on the machine and add the chopped onion pieces. Be prepared for strong odors – it is best to do this in a well-ventilated area.

4. Mortar and Pestle Method:

Another alternative method that doesn’t require any electrical appliances is using a mortar and pestle. To extract juice with this age-old kitchen tool, peel and finely chop your onion into small pieces first. Place these pieces into the mortar and grind with the pestle until they become a paste. Finally, strain the paste through a clean cloth or cheesecloth, squeezing to extract the juice.

There you have it – four different ways to extract juice from an onion. Regardless of which method you choose, be prepared for a pungent aroma and potentially teary eyes as onions are infamous for their strong smell and their ability to make us cry. But don’t let that deter you from enjoying the benefits of this unusual yet valuable health elixir!
