Introduction:

Cooking butternut squash in the microwave is a quick and convenient method to enjoy this popular autumn vegetable. In this article, we present four different methods to cook butternut squash using your microwave, so you can enjoy this versatile ingredient in no time.

1. Simple Microwaved Whole Butternut Squash:

– Begin by washing the exterior of the squash thoroughly.

– Use a fork or knife to carefully pierce several holes around the skin of the squash.

– Place the whole squash in a microwave-safe dish.

– Microwave on high for 10 minutes, then check for tenderness by inserting a fork into the thickest part of the squash.

– If required, continue to microwave in 2-minute increments until desired tenderness is achieved.

– Cut open, remove seeds, and season as desired.

2. Steamed Butternut Squash Cubes:

– Peel and cube butternut squash into 1-inch pieces.

– Place the cubed squash in a microwave-safe dish along with 2 tablespoons of water.

– Cover the dish with microwave-safe plastic wrap, leaving one corner open to vent steam.

– Microwave on high for 5 minutes, then check for tenderness by inserting a fork into a cube.

– If necessary, continue to cook in 1-minute increments until tender.

-Drain any excess water and season as desired.

3. Microwaved Butternut Squash Halves:

– Cut butternut squash lengthwise and scoop out seeds.

– Place both halves cut-side-down in a shallow microwave-safe dish with approximately 1/4 inch of water covering the bottom of the dish.

– Microwave on high for approximately 8 minutes or until tender when tested with a fork.

– Carefully flip the halves cut-side-up, add your preferred toppings, and microwave for another few minutes to heat everything through.

4. Butternut Squash “Bake” in the Microwave:

– Follow the steps for preparing halved squash as described in Method 3.

– After microwaving the halves, flip them cut-side-up, and add a flavorful stuffing or mashed potato mixture.

– Top the filled squash with cheese, breadcrumbs, or other preferred toppings.

– Microwave on high for an additional 2-4 minutes until the toppings are golden and bubbly.

– Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Conclusion: With these four easy methods, there’s no excuse not to enjoy perfectly cooked butternut squash whenever you’d like. Give each method a try to find your favorite or even combine elements from each technique to create your signature dish. Enjoy your delicious and nutritious microwave-cooked butternut squash!
