Introduction:

The Instant Pot has revolutionized modern home cooking by offering a diverse range of multiple cooking functions in a single appliance. One of the many benefits of using an Instant Pot is its ability to quickly and efficiently steam different types of food. In this article, we will discuss three ways you can use your Instant Pot for steaming. These methods are simple, convenient, and save you time in the kitchen.

1. Steaming with the Trivet

The trivet is a handy accessory that comes with your Instant Pot. It elevates your food above the water, so it gets steamed evenly. To steam using the trivet, follow these steps:

a. Add 1-2 cups of water into the inner pot.

b. Place the trivet inside the inner pot.

c. Arrange your food on top of the trivet in a single layer or stackable two-layer design if needed.

d. Close the lid and set the Instant Pot to ‘Steam’ mode.

e. Adjust the cook time according to your desired level of doneness for the food.

2. Steaming with a Steamer Basket

A steamer basket is an essential accessory that allows you to steam various kinds of foods in your Instant Pot without them touching the water directly. Follow these steps to get perfect steamed results:

a. Pour 1-2 cups of water into the inner pot.

b. Insert your steamer basket filled with food into the inner pot.

c. Close the lid and choose ‘Steam’ mode on your Instant Pot.

d. Set your cook time based on desired doneness levels.

3. Steaming using “Pot-in-Pot” method

Another popular way of steaming in an Instant Pot is by using the “Pot-in-Pot” (PIP) method, where you use a heat-proof, oven-safe container to cook your food inside the Quick Cooker. This technique is especially convenient for cooking delicate and small-sized dishes.

a. Add 1-2 cups of water to the inner pot.

b. Place the trivet inside.

c. Set your heat-proof, oven-safe container filled with food on top of the trivet.

d. Close the lid and choose ‘Steam’ mode on your Instant Pot.

e. Adjust your cook time according to your desired level of doneness for the food.

Conclusion:

Steaming using an Instant Pot offers a healthier, more efficient way to prepare your favorite dishes. With these three methods—using the trivet, a steamer basket, or employing the Pot-in-Pot technique—steam cooking has never been more versatile and accessible. Give them a try, and you’ll soon find that Instant Pot steaming will become a staple in your kitchen routine!
