3 Ways to Remove an Ink Stain from a Couch

Ink stains are common household accidents that can leave a homeowner or renter feeling frustrated. Whether it’s from an accidental pen mark or a child exploring their artistic abilities, these stubborn blemishes can mar the appearance of your favorite couch. Fortunately, there are several methods to safely and effectively remove ink stains from various upholstery materials. Here are three ways to eliminate those pesky ink stains from your couch:

1. Hairspray and Rubbing Alcohol Method:

For this technique, you will need hairspray, rubbing alcohol, a clean white cloth, and some cotton balls.

Step 1: Spray the stained area lightly with a generous amount of hairspray.

Step 2: Use a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol to gently dab the stain, being careful not to spread it further. Remember to replace the cotton ball as it picks up ink.

Step 3: As the ink transfers onto the cotton ball, continue dabbing until the stain begins to lessen.

Step 4: Once the majority of the stain has been removed, use a damp cloth to blot any remaining residue and avoid any permanent discolouration.

2. Baking Soda and Water Paste:

This method requires baking soda, water, a soft toothbrush or cloth, and clean water to rinse.

Step 1: Mix equal parts baking soda and water to form a thick paste.

Step 2: Apply the paste onto the ink stain using either your fingers or a soft toothbrush.

Step 3: Allow the paste mixture to sit on the stain for approximately five minutes before gently scrubbing with a soft cloth or toothbrush in circular motions.

Step 4: Rinse the treated area with clean water and pat dry with a clean towel.

3. Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover:

For this approach, you’ll need non-acetone nail polish remover, cotton balls, and a clean white cloth.

Step 1: Test the nail polish remover on a hidden area of your couch to ensure that it does not cause any damage.

Step 2: Apply the non-acetone nail polish remover to a cotton ball, then gently dab the ink stain.

Step 3: Be sure to frequently replace the cotton ball as ink transfers onto it. Repeat this process until the stain is no longer visible.

Step 4: Lastly, use a damp clean cloth to remove any traces of the nail polish remover on your couch’s fabric.
Always remember to check your couch’s care label before attempting any stain removal methods. It’s best to act quickly when an ink stain occurs, but if these methods do not work, consult a professional upholstery cleaner for assistance.
