3 Ways to Open XPS Files

Introduction:

XPS (XML Paper Specification) files are a type of file format for electronic documents. Developed by Microsoft, XPS files are similar to PDF files and are used to represent fixed-layout documents, particularly for printing purposes. Opening these files can be tricky if you’re not familiar with the format. Don’t worry; in this article, we’ll cover three easy ways to open XPS files on your computer.

1. Use an XPS Viewer:

Microsoft developed an XPS Viewer application specifically tailored to open and view XPS files. The software comes pre-installed on most Windows operating systems (Windows Vista and later). Here’s how you can use it:

– Press the “Start” button and type “XPS Viewer” into the search bar.

– Click on the “XPS Viewer” application that appears in the search results.

– In the “XPS Viewer,” click on “File” in the top-left corner and select “Open.”

– Browse your computer’s directories to find the desired XPS file and click “Open.”

2. Convert XPS to PDF:

Converting your XPS file to a more widely recognized format such as PDF offers greater flexibility, as PDF files can be opened using numerous software applications. Online conversion tools are available that allow you to upload an XPS file and convert it into a PDF file. Here’s how:

– Visit an online converter website like xps2pdf.com or www.ConvertFiles.com.

– On the conversion website, click “Choose File” or a similar option, then select your desired XPS file from your device.

– Click “Convert” or a similar option to initiate the conversion process.

– The converted PDF file will then be available for download.

3. Use Third-Party Software:

Several third-party software applications can open XPS files, including Adobe Reader, SumatraPDF, and MuPDF. Here’s an example of how to open an XPS file using Adobe Reader:

– Download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader (if you haven’t already) from the official website: get.adobe.com/reader/.

– Run Adobe Reader and click “File” in the top-left corner.

– Select “Open” in the drop-down menu, and browse your computer’s directories to find your desired XPS file.

– Click “Open” to view the XPS file in Adobe Reader.

Conclusion:

Opening XPS files doesn’t have to be a complicated task. Whether you prefer to use Microsoft’s native XPS Viewer, convert your files to PDF, or utilize third-party software, the choice is yours. Each method has its advantages, so experiment with them to find the best option for your needs.
