3 Ways to Measure a Toilet Seat

Whether you’re looking to replace a worn-out toilet seat or simply upgrade to a more comfortable one, knowing how to properly measure for a new seat is essential. A seat that doesn’t fit perfectly may not only be uncomfortable but also less durable and stable. In this article, we’ll discuss three methods to measure a toilet seat so that you can find the perfect fit for your bathroom.

1. Measure the length of the toilet bowl

One of the most crucial measurements when determining the right-size toilet seat is the length of your toilet bowl. This measurement is taken from the hinge holes to the front edge of the bowl.

To take this measurement, use a tape measure and carefully measure from the center of one hinge hole to the center of the other. Next, extend your tape measure from this point to the front edge of the bowl. Make sure you take measurements in both inches and centimeters, as different manufacturers may use different units.

2. Measure the width of the toilet bowl

Measuring the width of your toilet bowl will ensure that your new seat will adequately cover and securely fit onto your toilet. To determine this measurement, use your tape measure to measure across the widest part of your toilet bowl from left to right.

Make sure you keep your tape measure level and straight as you measure across, as an angled measurement might lead to an inaccurate result. Record this measurement in both inches and centimeters.

3. Measure the distance between hinge holes

The final essential measurement when selecting a new toilet seat is determining the distance between your toilet’s hinge holes – this ensures that your new seat will mount securely onto your existing toilet hardware.

To find this distance, place one end of your tape measure into one hinge hole’s center and extend it across until you reach the other hinge hole’s center. As with previous measurements, make sure you record these values in both inches and centimeters.

Armed with these three essential measurements, you’ll be able to confidently select the perfect toilet seat for your bathroom. When shopping for a new seat, make sure to look for size guides and compatibility charts provided by manufacturers, as this information can make your search easier and ensure a perfect fit. Happy shopping!
