Introduction

Floam is a squishy and colorful material that has taken the arts and crafts world by storm, offering hours of tactile fun for both kids and adults. Making your own floam allows you to customize the colors, texture, and consistency according to your preferences. In this article, we will explore three different methods of making floam at home using easy-to-find ingredients.

1. Basic Floam Recipe

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of white school glue

– 1 cup of water

– Food coloring (optional)

– 2 cups of shaving cream

– 1 cup of liquid starch

– Craft beads or styrofoam balls (for texture)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the glue and water until well combined.
  2. Add food coloring to achieve your desired color.
  3. Fold in the shaving cream, mixing gently until you achieve a fluffy consistency.
  4. Slowly add the liquid starch into the mixture while stirring continuously until it forms a stretchy, cohesive mass.
  5. Add craft beads or styrofoam balls and knead them into the floam until evenly distributed.

2. Cornstarch Floam Recipe

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of white school glue

– 1 cup of cornstarch

– Food coloring (optional)

– Craft beads or styrofoam balls (for texture)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the glue and cornstarch until well combined.
  2. Add food coloring to achieve your desired color.
  3. Knead the mixture with your hands until it forms a soft dough-like consistency.
  4. Add craft beads or styrofoam balls to the dough and knead them in until evenly distributed.

3. Borax-Free Floam Recipe

Ingredients:

– 2 cups of white school glue

– 1 cup of contact lens solution (must contain boric acid as an ingredient)

– ½ teaspoon baking soda

– Food coloring (optional)

– Craft beads or styrofoam balls (for texture)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the glue and baking soda until well combined.
  2. Add food coloring to achieve your desired color.
  3. Slowly add the contact lens solution while stirring continuously until the mixture starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl.
  4. Knead floam with your hands until it forms a stretchy, cohesive mass.
  5. Add craft beads or styrofoam balls and knead them into the floam until evenly distributed.

Conclusion

Creating floam at home can be an entertaining and engaging activity for people of all ages, offering endless possibilities for creative play and discovery. Whether you prefer the basic recipe with liquid starch, the cornstarch method, or a borax-free alternative using contact lens solution, these three methods will help you whip up a batch of colorful and tactile floam in no time. Happy crafting!
