Eraser putty, also known as kneaded erasers, is a popular tool used by artists, students, and professionals alike. This pliable and moldable material is perfect for lifting graphite and charcoal from your drawing surfaces without leaving residue or smudging your work. In this article, we’ll explore three ways to make your own eraser putty at home.

1. Cornstarch and Silicone-Based Method

Ingredients:

– 1 tablespoon cornstarch

– 1 tablespoon silicone-based glue or caulk

Instructions:

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine equal parts cornstarch and silicone-based glue.

2. Mix well using a popsicle stick or spoon until you get a dough-like consistency.

3. Knead the mixture with your hands for a few minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.

4. Your eraser putty is now ready for use! Store it in an airtight container or plastic wrap when not in use to                       prevent it from drying out.

2. School Glue and Baking Soda Method

Ingredients:

– 1 tablespoon white school glue

– 1 teaspoon baking soda

Instructions:

1.In a small mixing bowl, pour in the white school glue.

2.Gradually add baking soda to the glue while stirring continuously until it forms a thick paste.

3.Knead the paste with your hands for about five minutes until it becomes smooth and pliable.

4.Your eraser putty is now ready to use! As with the previous method, store it in an airtight container or plastic        wrap when not in use.

3. Rubber Cement Method

Ingredients:

– Rubber cement

– Talcum powder (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Pour some rubber cement into a small dish or container.
  2. If you’d like your eraser putty to be softer and less sticky, add a small amount of talcum powder to the rubber cement and mix well.
  3. Use your fingers to form a ball with the rubber cement mixture.
  4. Knead the ball for a few minutes until it becomes elastic and putty-like.
  5. Your eraser putty is ready for use! Keep it stored in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic when not in use.

Each of these DIY methods provides an affordable and customizable alternative to store-bought eraser putties. With just a few simple ingredients, you can quickly create your own eraser putty at home, perfect for your artistic needs. So, get creative and have fun making your own putty!
