Introduction:

Mastering the multiplication table is an essential mathematical skill that every individual should acquire. Among all tables, the 9’s can be an intriguing one with simple yet effective techniques to help you learn it quickly and efficiently. Here are three ways to learn the 9’s on the multiplication table.

1. Finger Technique:

This method is a fun and interactive way to understand the multiplication of 9’s using your fingers. To use this method, follow these steps:

– Hold out both your hands with fingers extended

– Assign each finger a number from 1 to 10, starting with your left pinky as 1 and ending with your right pinky as 10

– To multiply a number by 9, say you want to multiply 9 by 4, bend down the fourth finger (left ring finger)

– Count the fingers before and after the bent finger

– The number of fingers before the bent finger is tens place (in this case, there’re three)

– The number of fingers after the bent finger will fill up in unit place (In this case, there’re six)

So, for our example, we have “3” in tens place and “6” in the unit place; thus, the answer is “36.”

Using this method, you can quickly recall any multiplication fact for the 9’s.

2. Subtract One and Complement:

This technique relies on remembering two basic rules: (1) subtract one from the number being multiplied by 9 and (2) complement that result to equal nine.

For example:

To find out what 5 multiplied by 9 is:

Step 1: Subtract one from that number (5 -1 = 4)

Step 2: Find the number that complements “4” so that sum equals nine (4 + what= 9; the answer is “5”)

Thus, when multiplying 5 and 9, we get the result “45.”

Following these two simple rules will enable you to quickly perform calculations involving the 9’s.

3. Build on a Pattern:

One of the fascinating aspects of multiplications involving 9’s is the pattern it creates. Observe the following pattern formed by the multiplication of 9’s:

09, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, and 90

As you can see:

– In each answer, the tens place increases from zero to nine

– The units place decreases from nine to zero

This pattern makes it easy for you to remember and quickly find any multiplication involving the number nine.

Conclusion:

With these three creative ways to learn the 9’s on the multiplication table – using fingers technique, subtracting one and complementing or relying on a pattern – you can quickly and efficiently master this essential math skill. Practice these techniques regularly, and you’ll become proficient in no time.
