3 Ways to Install a New Cabinet Drawer Front

Upgrading your kitchen cabinets is a great way to give your space a fresh new look. One simple way to do this is by installing new cabinet drawer fronts. These can change the whole aesthetic of your kitchen without the hassle of replacing the entire cabinetry. There are several methods to install new drawer fronts, and in this article, we’ll go over three of the most popular ways: using screws, using double-sided tape, and using snap-on connectors.

1. Using Screws

This method involves attaching the new cabinet drawer front to the existing drawer box using screws. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Measure and Mark

Carefully measure and mark the positions on the backside of your new cabinet drawer front where the screws need to be placed. Take into account any alignment adjustments or pre-drilled holes present on the new front.

Step 2: Drill Pilot Holes

Using a power drill with an appropriate drill bit, carefully drill pilot holes into the marked spots on the backside of your drawer front, ensuring that they are deep enough for your screws but not too deep that they risk cracking or damaging the drawer front material.

Step 3: Attach Drawer Front to Drawer Box

Line up your drilled pilot holes with corresponding holes or points on the existing drawer box. Securely fasten the new drawer front to the box using appropriate-length wood screws.

2. Using Double-Sided Tape

An alternative to using screws is attaching the new cabinet drawer front with heavy-duty double-sided tape.

Step 1: Clean Surfaces

Before starting, make sure both surfaces of your new cabinet drawer front and existing drawer box are clean and free from dust, grease or any other residue that might impact adhesion.

Step 2: Attach Double-Sided Tape

Cut strips of heavy-duty double-sided tape to fit along each edge of your new cabinet drawer front. Remove the protective backing and apply the tape to the back of the drawer front.

Step 3: Press into Place

Align your new cabinet drawer front carefully with your existing drawer box, ensuring that it is positioned correctly. Apply firm pressure evenly across the entire surface of the drawer front to ensure a strong and lasting bond.

3. Using Snap-On Connectors

Snap-on connectors, also known as cabinet clips or drawer front fasteners, provide an easy installation method for new cabinet drawer fronts.

Step 1: Purchase Snap-On Connectors

Purchase snap-on connectors suitable for your specific cabinet and drawer setup from a hardware store, ensuring that they are compatible with your chosen materials and design.

Step 2: Attach Connectors to Drawer Box

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to attach one part of the snap-on connector to your existing drawer box.

Step 3: Attach Connectors to Drawer Front

Securely attach the other half of the snap-on connector to the backside of your new cabinet drawer front as per manufacturer’s instructions.

Step 4: Snap Together

With both parts in place, line up the connectors and securely snap them together to fasten your new cabinet drawer front in place.

No matter which method you choose for installing new cabinet drawer fronts, taking on this project will give your kitchen a stunning transformation. Consider each option carefully, and choose the one that best suits your needs, skill level, and desired outcome.
