3 Ways to Heal an Industrial Piercing

Introduction:

Industrial piercings have become increasingly popular over recent years. They consist of two holes connected by a straight barbell, typically located at the upper ear cartilage. While they are a stylish and eye-catching addition, it is important to take care of them properly to avoid complications such as infection. In this article, we will discuss three ways to heal an industrial piercing effectively.

1. Keep it Clean

The first step to healing your industrial piercing is maintaining proper hygiene. This will minimize the risk of infection or inflammation. Here are a few guidelines to follow:

– Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing

– Clean your piercing 2-3 times a day with a sterile saline solution or wound wash made for piercings

– Avoid using alcohol or hydrogen peroxide, as they can be too harsh on the delicate skin tissue and delay healing

– Make sure the jewelry is clean before inserting it into the piercing holes

2. Give it Time and Space

Whether you’re sleeping or going about your daily routine, be mindful of the pressure applied to your industrial piercing. Due to its unique design, industrial piercings often take longer than average to heal (anywhere between 6 months to a year). Here’s how you can support the healing process:

– Sleep on the opposite side of your piercing, or use a travel pillow to avoid putting pressure on it while you sleep

– Avoid wearing tight hats or headphones that press against your piercing

– Be careful when brushing your hair and avoid snagging any hair strands on your jewelry

– Refrain from changing out the jewelry too soon; stick with hypoallergenic and high-quality materials like titanium or surgical steel

3. Listen to Your Body

Pay close attention to how your piercing reacts during the healing process. Take note of any signs of irritation, discomfort, or potential infection. Should any red flags emerge, be proactive in addressing them:

– Seek professional advice from your piercer if you experience unusual swelling, pain, or discharge

– Avoid applying any creams or ointments without consulting a professional to prevent worsening the condition

– Prescription medication, such as antibiotics, could be necessary – consult with your healthcare provider

– Patience is key; avoid touching, twisting, or bumping your piercing to prevent irritation and promote a smoother healing process

Conclusion:

Taking care of an industrial piercing is crucial for a seamless healing process and a visually appealing outcome. By maintaining good hygiene, allowing the piercing adequate time and space to heal, and closely monitoring any changes or complications during the healing period, you can ensure a successful outcome for your industrial piercing. Remember that proper maintenance will extend beyond the initial healing process and become part of your regular self-care routine.
