3 Ways to Fix Highlights That Are Too Light

Introduction:

At some point, almost everyone who experiments with hair highlights may have ended up with a color that is too light for their liking. But don’t worry – fixing highlights that are too light is not as challenging as it seems. In this article, we’ll explore three easy ways to darken too-light highlights and achieve the perfect shade you desire.

1. Toning:

Toning is the first and easiest method to correct highlights that are too light. Hair toners contain pigments, which help in neutralizing overly bright hair colors. Begin by choosing a toner in a shade darker than your current highlights, ideally a demi-permanent or semi-permanent dye. Apply the toner to your damp hair and let it sit for the recommended time mentioned on the product instructions, usually around 15-30 minutes. Afterward, rinse off the toner and style your hair as desired.

2. Lowlighting:

Lowlighting is another great technique to fix lighter highlights by adding depth and dimension to your hair. Lowlighting involves applying darker shades to certain strands of highlighted hair, which can help achieve a more balanced appearance. Consult with your hairstylist for the most suitable lowlight color that complements your base hair color and existing highlights. Your stylist will then strategically apply the lowlights to create a subtle blend of shades and soften the contrast between your natural color and the lighter highlights.

3. Color Bath:

A color bath, also referred to as a soap cap or color glaze, can offer mild correction for overly light highlights. This gentle process involves mixing a small amount of semi-permanent dye with shampoo or conditioner. Apply this mixture evenly over your whole head or specific strands of highlighted hair and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. As this is a milder process than toning or lowlighting, it may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.

Conclusion:

Fixing highlights that are too light may seem daunting, but with these three methods – toning, lowlighting, and color bath – you can easily achieve a more balanced and natural-looking result. Remember that consulting with a professional hairstylist is always recommended to obtain the best results and minimize potential damage to your hair. With the correct approach and care, you’ll be rocking perfectly toned highlights in no time!
