3 Ways to Fix Bent Glasses

Having a pair of bent glasses is never a pleasant experience, as it can affect your vision and cause discomfort while wearing them. But don’t worry, this article will provide you with three ways to fix your bent glasses, whether it’s the frame or the arms that have lost their shape. It’s important to handle your eyeglasses with care during these fixes, so follow these methods carefully and bring life back into your favorite pair of specs.

1. Warm Water Treatment

For minor bends in your glasses frame or arms, using warm water can do the trick. Follow these steps:

a. Heat some water until it reaches a lukewarm temperature (avoid boiling water as it can damage the glasses).

b. Hold your glasses by the arms and submerge the bent part of the frame into the warm water for 30 seconds.

c. Gently bend the softened part of the frame back into its correct position using your fingers or a soft cloth.

d. Keep applying pressure on the bent part until it cools down and solidifies in its appropriate shape.

2. Use a Hairdryer

Another method for fixing bent glasses frames is by using a hairdryer. If your frames are made from acetate or plastic materials, this method works well. Here’s how you proceed:

a. Set your hairdryer on a low-heat setting and hold it at least 6 inches away from the bent part of your glasses.

b. Apply heat gradually, moving the hairdryer evenly across the affected area for about 20 seconds at a time.

c. Use your fingers or a cloth to gently reshape the warmed area of your glasses until it returns to its normal form.

d. Allow the frame to cool down before wearing or adjusting further.

3. Take Your Glasses to an Optician

If the above methods don’t work, or if you feel uncomfortable attempting to fix your glasses on your own, take them to a professional optician. Opticians have specialized tools for adjusting eyeglasses and can often fix bent frames quickly and accurately. Sometimes, optical shops even offer repair services for free or at a minimal cost.

In conclusion, if you have bent glasses, don’t fret! With these simple fixes using warm water, a hairdryer, or professional help from an optician, you can restore the shape of your glasses and enjoy clear vision and comfort once again. In the future, handle your eyewear with care to avoid this issue and maintain the longevity of your precious specs.
