3 Ways to Draw Cool Things

Are you looking for ways to improve your drawing skills and create some impressive artworks? Look no further! In this article, we explore three different methods for drawing cool things. Each of these techniques will help you achieve unique and eye-catching results. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, these methods will broaden your creative horizons and inspire your imagination.

1. Contour Drawing: Embrace the Lines

Contour drawing is an artistic technique that focuses on the outlines of your subject. The basic idea is to draw without lifting your pen off the paper, capturing the essence of the subject with minimal lines.

To try contour drawing, follow these steps:

a) Choose an interesting object or scene as your subject.

b) Keep your eyes on the subject and maintain a constant line as you trace its outline.

c) Focus on important details, such as intricate shapes or patterns within the subject.

d) Once completed, step back and observe the result – an expressive representation of the object’s essence.

2. Negative Space Drawing: Simplify by Subtracting

Negative space drawing refers to concentrating on the areas around an object, rather than the object itself. This method can help enhance perception and composition in your artwork.

To practice negative space drawing:

a) Pick a simple still life setup or use reference images.

b) Begin by identifying all the negative space – areas unoccupied by objects.

c) Draw these negative spaces rather than directly outlining objects themselves.

d) Gradually build your composition until you have fully captured the scene while focusing solely on negative spaces.

3. Zentangle Technique: Patterns Galore

A Zentangle is a form of artistic meditation characterized by repetitive patterns and shapes. Combining various Zentangle patterns can transform simple shapes into intricate, mesmerizing artworks.

To create a Zentangle artwork:

a) Begin with a blank sheet of paper and a fine-tipped pen.

b) Draw a simple shape, such as a circle, square, or a more complex form if you wish.

c) Inside the shape, start drawing repetitive patterns: lines, dots, spirals, or geometric shapes.

d) Continue to fill the space within your original shape with various patterns until it becomes an intricate composition.

In conclusion, these three methods – contour drawing, negative space drawing, and the Zentangle technique – can help you develop your artistic skills and create unique, cool drawings. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different subjects and styles; after all, art is about expressing yourself and discovering new ways to view the world. Happy drawing!
