3 Ways to Do a Basic Hair Braid

Braiding hair is a versatile and stylish way to keep your locks out of your face while still looking fashionable. Whether you’re a pro at braiding or a beginner, there are various basic hair braids that can be easily mastered. In this article, we will explore three popular ways to do a basic hair braid: the Classic Three-Strand Braid, the French Braid, and the Dutch Braid.

1. Classic Three-Strand Braid

The Classic Three-Strand Braid is the most traditional and straightforward braid technique. Follow these simple steps to create this timeless look:

Step 1: First, brush your hair to remove any tangles. Then, gather all your hair and separate it into three equal sections.

Step 2: Hold the left section with your left hand and the right section with your right hand, allowing the middle section to rest in between.

Step 3: Cross the right section over the middle section so that the right section becomes the new middle and vice versa.

Step 4: Now cross the left section over the new middle section so that the left becomes the new middle.

Step 5: Continue alternating sides, weaving the right and left sections across the middle until reaching the end. Secure with an elastic band.

2. French Braid

The French Braid adds a sophisticated twist to your hairstyle by incorporating strands from each side for a crown-like appearance. Here’s how:

Step 1: Begin at your hairline by gathering a small section of hair from both sides of your face. Divide this into three equal sections similar to a Classic Three-Strand Braid.

Step 2: Cross one outer section over the middle section while holding onto it securely.

Step 3: Cross the other outer section over what is now becoming your new middle section.

Step 4: As you continue the weaving process, gradually add more hair to each outer section before crossing it over the middle. This gives your braid that classic French Braid appearance.

Step 5: Once you’ve added all your hair into the braid, continue with the Classic Three-Strand Braid technique until you reach the end. Secure with an elastic band.

3. Dutch Braid

The Dutch Braid is similar to a French Braid, but with a slight twist that gives it a raised appearance. To create this stunning look, follow these steps:

Step 1: Start with a small section of hair at your hairline. Split it into three equal parts.

Step 2: This time, instead of crossing the outer sections over the middle section as in a French Braid, cross them under the middle section.

Step 3: As you progress, add more hair to each outer section before crossing it underneath the middle part, creating an inverted pattern.

Step 4: Continue this process until all your hair is incorporated into the braid.

Step 5: After reaching the end, secure your Dutch Braid with an elastic band.

With these three basic braiding techniques in your arsenal, you can easily create stunning hairstyles for any occasion. Practice and patience are essential to achieving perfect braids, so keep experimenting and find your favorite ways to show off your locks!
