3 Ways to Cut Wavy Hair Yourself

Cutting wavy hair can be a bit challenging, but with the right tools and techniques, you can easily do it yourself at home. Here are three ways to cut your wavy hair by yourself and achieve a salon-quality finish.

1. The Unicorn Technique

The Unicorn Technique is perfect for those with wavy hair looking for layers and movement without going to a stylist. Here’s how:

a. Start with clean, dry hair and brush it out thoroughly to remove any tangles.

b. Gather all your hair at the center of your forehead like a unicorn’s horn, and hold it with a hair elastic.

c. Determine the length you want for your layers, and slide another hair elastic down the gathered hair to that point.

d. Using a pair of sharp hair scissors, cut straight across below the second elastic.

e. Release your hair, and enjoy your newly layered waves!

2. Twist Cutting Technique

The Twist Cutting Technique gives you soft, face-framing layers and is ideal for medium to long wavy hair. Follow these steps:

a. Begin with clean, dry, and tangle-free hair parted in its natural pattern.

b. Take a two-inch section of hair from the front near your face, and twist it tightly away from your face.

c. Hold the twisted section at an angle between your fingers where you’d like to cut to create a layered look.

d. Use the scissors to make small diagonal snips into the twisted hair.

e. Carefully untwist the section and use your fingers to blend in the new layers

f. Repeat this process on both sides of your face until you achieve the desired layering effect.

3. The Slide Cutting Technique

The Slide Cutting Technique works well for creating more natural-looking layers on wavy hair without losing too much length:

a. Ensure that your wavy hair is clean, dry, and free of tangles.

b. Choose a section of hair you’d like to layer. Hold the hair between your pointer and middle fingers, pinching it until you reach the point where you want the layers to start.

c. Angle your scissors so the blades are parallel to your hair and pointed towards your head.

d. Slide the scissors down the hair strand while closing them slightly, using a light cutting motion. This creates soft layers as you work your way down the hair.

e. Continue this process throughout your hair until you achieve the desired level of layering.

In conclusion, these three methods provide simple yet effective ways to cut wavy hair at home without sacrificing style or quality. With a little patience and practice, you’ll be able to maintain beautiful waves without needing a professional touch. So go ahead and give these techniques a try — you won’t be disappointed!
