3 Ways to Cure Onycholysis

Introduction:

Onycholysis is a common nail disorder characterized by the separation of the nail from the nail bed. This can affect both fingernails and toenails, causing discomfort, embarrassment, and even pain for those dealing with the issue. Thankfully, there are ways to cure and prevent onycholysis. In this article, we will explore three effective methods for treating onycholysis and getting your nails back to their healthy state.

1. Eliminate the Cause:

One of the first steps in curing onycholysis is identifying and eliminating the root cause. Various factors can contribute to this ailment, including trauma or injury to the nails, fungal infections, psoriasis, or even exposure to harsh chemicals. Once you’ve identified what’s causing your nail problem, take the necessary steps to remedy it.

– For fungal infections, use topical antifungal medication or consult your doctor for prescription options.

– If your onycholysis is due to trauma or injury, avoid any further damage by wearing protective gloves when performing manual labor or engaging in activities that could potentially harm your nails.

– If psoriasis is the culprit, visit a dermatologist who can recommend appropriate treatments.

– Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals by using gentle cleaners and wearing gloves during cleaning tasks.

2. Maintain Proper Nail Hygiene:

Taking care of your nails is crucial when treating onycholysis. Establishing a regular nail hygiene routine will help maintain healthy nails and prevent any further damage.

– Keep your nails clean and dry at all times; bacteria thrive in damp environments.

– Trim your nails straight across and file them gently with an emery board to prevent snagging or breakage.

– Avoid using artificial nails as they can weaken your natural nails and cause further separation.

– Do not pick, bite or pull at your loose nail as it may lead to infection or exacerbate the problem.

3. Use Home Remedies for Support:

Certain home remedies can help soothe and repair damaged nails in cases of mild onycholysis. These remedies should be used in conjunction with medical treatment for best results.

– Tea tree oil: With its antifungal and antibacterial properties, tea tree oil can help fight infections and promote healing.

– Vitamin E oil: Applying vitamin E oil on the affected nails can aid in moisturizing, reducing inflammation, and encouraging healthy nail growth.

– Apple cider vinegar: Due to its antifungal properties, applying diluted apple cider vinegar to your nails can help resolve fungal infections.

Conclusion:

Onycholysis can be a bothersome and sometimes painful condition, but following these three steps—eliminating the cause, maintaining proper nail hygiene, and using helpful home remedies—will set you on the path towards curing your nails and restoring them to their original, healthy state. Remember, it is vital to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and guidance on treating your specific case of onycholysis.
