Pork shoulder is a versatile and flavorful cut of meat, perfect for slow cooking, roasting, or grilling. Below are three delicious methods to cook pork shoulder to perfection.

1. Slow Cooked Pork Shoulder

A slow cooker is an excellent way to cook pork shoulder, as it breaks down the tough connective tissue over time, leaving you with moist and tender meat.

Ingredients:

– 5 lbs pork shoulder

– 1 tbsp salt

– 2 tsp ground black pepper

– 2 tsp paprika

– 2 tsp garlic powder

– 2 tsp onion powder

– 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions:

1. Combine the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder in a small bowl to create a dry rub. Massage the spice mixture into the pork shoulder on all sides.

2. Place the seasoned pork shoulder in the slow cooker with the chicken broth.

3. Cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the internal temperature reaches at least 190°F (88°C).

4. Remove from the slow cooker and let rest before shredding or slicing.

2. Oven-Roasted Pork Shoulder

Roasting in the oven can also provide delicious results.

Ingredients:

– 5 lbs pork shoulder

– Salt and pepper to taste

– 1 tbsp olive oil

– Your choice of herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, or sage)

Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

2. Season the pork shoulder all over with salt and pepper.

3. Heat the olive oil in an oven-safe skillet or dutch oven over medium-high heat on your stovetop.

4. Sear each side of the pork shoulder until browned (approximately two minutes each side).

5. Remove from heat and place your desired herbs on top and around your pork.

6. Cover and cook in the oven for 3 to 4 hours, or until an internal temperature of at least 190°F (88°C) is reached.

7. Remove from the oven, rest for 15 minutes, and carve or shred as desired.

3. Grilled Pork Shoulder

Grilling pork shoulder can provide a tasty, smoky flavor.

Ingredients:

– 5 lbs boneless pork shoulder

– Your choice of BBQ rub or marinade

– Aluminum foil

Instructions:

1. Apply your chosen BBQ rub or marinade to the pork shoulder and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.

2. Preheat grill to around 250°F (121°C) and place the pork shoulder over indirect heat.

3. Grill for approximately 1 to 1½ hours per pound, or until an internal temperature of at least 190°F (88°C) is reached.

4. Wrap the pork shoulder tightly in aluminum foil and continue cooking for another hour.

5. Remove from the grill and rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing or shredding.

Whichever method you choose, these three ways to cook pork shoulder are sure to provide a flavorful and satisfying meal perfect for any night of the week.
