3 Ways to Clean Stains off a Suede Purse

Suede purses are known for their luxurious texture and elegant look. However, they can be quite challenging to maintain, especially when it comes to removing stains. Here are three effective methods to clean stains off your suede purse without causing any damage:

1. Eraser and Brush Technique

The eraser and brush technique is ideal for minor stains and scuffs on your suede purse. You will need a clean, dry suede brush and a white eraser (regular pencil erasers work well).

First, gently rub the stained area with the eraser in a back-and-forth motion until the stain lifts. Be sure not to use excessive force, as this can damage the suede fibers. Next, use the suede brush to restore the purse’s nap by brushing in one direction. This technique is suitable for small, non-greasy stains.

2. Cornstarch or Talcum Powder for Greasy Stains

For greasy or oily stains, cornstarch or talcum powder can work wonders. These products absorb oils from the surface of suede without causing harm.

Sprinkle a generous amount of cornstarch or talcum powder onto the greasy stain and let it sit for several hours or overnight. The powder should absorb most of the oil from the stain during this time. Afterward, gently brush away the powder using a clean, dry suede brush and check if the stain has lightened. If necessary, repeat this process until the stain disappears.

3. Vinegar Solution for Stubborn Stains

A mild vinegar solution can help tackle stubborn stains on your suede purse that do not respond to other cleaning techniques.

Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a small bowl and dip a clean cloth into this solution. Wring out excess liquid from the cloth so it is damp but not soaking wet. Gently dab at the stained area, being careful not to saturate the suede. Once the stain starts to lift, allow the purse to air dry before brushing it with a suede brush to restore its texture.

Remember that prevention is always better than cure. To maintain your suede purse in pristine condition, it’s wise to treat it with a protective spray designed for suede materials. This will help prevent liquid spills from turning into stains, making your purse easier to care for in the long run.
