If you’ve accidentally left a pen in your laundry and it’s opened up during the drying cycle, you might find yourself with a mess on the inside of your dryer. Before you panic, know that cleaning ink off the inside of a dryer is possible with a little bit of elbow grease and the right tools. Here are three effective methods to help get your dryer back in top shape.

1. Use rubbing alcohol and a soft cloth

The first and most common method for cleaning ink off the inside of a dryer is to use rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) and a soft cloth or sponge. Here’s how to do it:

a. Unplug your dryer to ensure safety before starting the cleaning process.

b. Pour a small amount of rubbing alcohol onto a soft cloth or sponge.

c. Gently rub the ink-stained area with the cloth or sponge until the ink starts to dissolve.

d. As you’re cleaning, regularly change to a clean part of the cloth or rinse out the sponge to avoid spreading the ink further.

e. Once you’ve removed as much ink as possible, let the dryer air dry to remove any traces of rubbing alcohol.

2. Try Magic Erasers

Magic Erasers, also known as melamine foam, are another effective solution for removing ink stains from your dryer’s interior. Follow these steps for success:

a. Once again, ensure your dryer is unplugged before beginning.

b. Wet the Magic Eraser slightly and gently squeeze out any excess water.

c. Gently rub the stained area with the Magic Eraser until you notice the ink disappearing.

d. Remember not to scrub too hard, as excessive pressure can damage your dryer’s surface.

e. After removing all visible ink stains, use a clean damp cloth to wipe down the interior and then leave it open to air dry.

3. Use a commercial cleaner

In more stubborn cases, you might need to resort to a commercial cleaner specifically designed for removing ink from appliances. Products like Goo Gone or WD-40 can be used for this purpose, with the following steps:

a. With the dryer unplugged, apply a small amount of the commercial cleaner onto a soft cloth or sponge. Be sure to follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.

b. Carefully rub the stained area, working in small sections to avoid spreading the ink.

c. Continuously switch to clean parts of the cloth or rinse out the sponge as ink is removed.

d. After finishing the treatment with the commercial cleaner, use a damp cloth to wipe down the interior of your dryer thoroughly.

e. Allow time for the dryer to air dry completely before plugging it back in and using it again.

By using one or more of these methods, you can successfully clean ink off the inside of your dryer. Remember always to check your pockets before doing laundry and promptly deal with any stains to prevent permanent damage to your appliance.
