Introduction

Making an international call can seem complex, but it is easier than you think. If you are in France and need to call a friend, family member, or colleague in the United States, you can opt for various methods such as landline phones, mobiles, or VoIP services. Here are three ways to call the United States from France.

1. Landline and Mobile phone

Using a landline or mobile phone is a straightforward way of making an international call.

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Dial France’s exit code (00). This code allows callers to dial out of their country for international calls.

Step 2: Dial the United States’ country code (1). This code allows calls to enter its phone system.

Step 3: Dial the area code for the US region you are trying to reach.

Step 4: Dial the local, seven-digit telephone number you’re calling.

The complete sequence should look like this: 00-1-(area code)-(local number).

Note that international calls may incur higher charges on your phone bill. Be sure to understand the rates charged by your service provider before making these calls.

2. VoIP services

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services enable users to make voice and video calls using an internet connection rather than relying on traditional phone lines. Examples of popular VoIP services include Skype, WhatsApp, and Viber.

To use this option, download and install the app on your smartphone or computer and create an account if necessary. These services often allow free calls if both parties are using the same app. Alternatively, they might offer reduced rates compared to traditional phone carriers for international calls.

3. Calling cards

Prepaid calling cards help control your expenses when calling overseas and offer competitive rates compared to standard providers. They can be bought at various locations such as supermarkets, newsstands, and post offices.

To use a calling card:

Step 1: Dial the local access number for the card.

Step 2: Enter your prepaid card’s unique PIN when prompted.

Step 3: Dial the United States’ country code (1) followed by the area code and the local number.

Conclusion

Whether you’re traveling, living in France, or simply need to make an international call to someone in the United States, these three methods can enable fast and reliable communication options. Be sure to choose the most appropriate option that suits your needs and budget, allowing you to stay connected with your loved ones and colleagues wherever you are.
