3 Ways to Braid Curly Hair

Introduction:

Curly hair can be both a blessing and a challenge. While the beautiful, natural texture adds volume and character to your hairstyle, it can also make braiding more difficult as the curls often tangle and snag. But fear not! Here are three methods to easily braid curly hair without causing unnecessary pain or damage.

1. The Classic Three-Strand Braid:

The traditional three-strand braid is simple, elegant, and timeless. It works well with curly hair because it does not require excessive manipulation or detangling. Follow these steps:

a. Start by detangling your hair with a wide-tooth comb.

b. Divide your hair into three equal sections.

c. Cross the right section over the middle one.

d. Next, cross the left section over the newly positioned middle section.

e. Continue this pattern until you reach the ends of your hair.

f. Secure the braid with a hair tie or elastic, and consider using a frizz-control serum for a more polished look.

2. The French Braid:

A French braid adds elegance and sophistication to any hairstyle, while still being practical for curly-haired individuals. To achieve this look, follow these instructions:

a. Detangle your hair gently with a wide-toothed comb.

b. Gather a small section of hair at the top of your head.

c. Begin a standard three-strand braid by crossing the right section over the middle one, followed by crossing the left section over the middle one.

d. Start adding more hair from the sides of your head into each strand before crossing them over each other.

e. As you continue braiding, take care not to pull too tight – this will prevent breakage and reduce discomfort.

f. Once you reach the nape of your neck, continue with a regular three-strand braid till the end and secure with a hair tie.

3. The Dutch Braid:

The Dutch braid is the reverse of the French braid, creating a visually appealing raised plait, perfect for curly hair. To create this braided hairstyle, follow these steps:

a. Gently detangle your hair with a wide-toothed comb.

b. Take a small section of hair at the top of your head and divide it into three equal parts.

c. Instead of crossing the sections over each other like in a French braid, cross them under.

d. Gradually add more hair from the sides of your head into each strand before crossing them under each other.

e. Continue this process until all your hair is incorporated into the braid.

f. Finish braiding to the end just like a regular three-strand braid and secure it with a hair tie.

Conclusion:

Curly hair may require extra care when braiding, but by using these techniques, you can achieve beautiful hairstyles that flaunt those natural curls. Remember to be gentle while handling your hair and to use a wide-toothed comb for detangling to minimize breakage and frizz. With these tips in mind, you can turn heads with your stunning curly braids!
