3 Simple Ways to Look Good on Zoom

In today’s increasingly digital world, Zoom meetings and virtual conferences have quickly become the norm. While it’s easy to focus on completing your work tasks, it’s just as important to maintain your professional appearance—even through video calls. Here are three simple ways to look good on Zoom and make a great impression.

1. Pay attention to your background

One of the first things that people will notice during a Zoom call is your background. Ensure that your workspace is neat and tidy, displaying an organized and professional setting. Find a space with minimal distractions to reduce any background noise or visual disruptions. If you’re unable to find such an area, take advantage of Zoom’s virtual background feature to help keep the focus on you.

2. Enhance your lighting

Good lighting can positively impact how you appear on camera, helping accentuate your features and reduce any unwanted shadows. Natural light is often the best option; however, if you’re working in a room without ample sunlight, consider investing in a desk lamp or ring light that illuminates your face evenly. Additionally, avoid sitting with bright light sources (such as windows) directly behind you, as this can leave your image underexposed and blurry.

3. Dress appropriately and professionally

While it may be tempting to dress casually for virtual meetings, maintaining a professional appearance conveys respect for yourself and others on the call. Dress as though you were attending an in-person meeting by choosing outfits that are work-appropriate—opt for solid colors over busy patterns or slogans. Don’t forget about grooming; make sure your hair is neat and styled appropriately for the workplace.

By paying attention to these aspects of your Zoom presentation—your background, lighting, and wardrobe choice—you’ll be able to look good on screen and leave a positive impression on those you interact with virtually. Remember that looking good on Zoom not only benefits you professionally but can also boost your confidence during virtual meetings.

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject.
