3 Simple Ways to Heal a Cartilage Piercing

A cartilage piercing adds a unique touch to your style and a touch of individuality. However, the healing process can be a bit challenging, as it requires proper care and maintenance. Below are three simple ways to help your cartilage piercing heal faster and more effectively.

1.Keep It Clean

One of the most crucial steps in healing your cartilage piercing is keeping it clean. Use a saline solution to clean the area twice daily. This can be purchased at any drugstore or made at home by mixing 1/4 teaspoon of non-iodized sea salt with 8 ounces of warm distilled water.

To clean the piercing, soak a cotton ball or pad in the saline solution, and gently dab it around the pierced area. Be cautious not to apply too much pressure or twist the jewelry, as this may cause further irritation. Remember to wash your hands thoroughly before touching your piercing to avoid introducing bacteria.

2.Avoid Unnecessary Contact

Resist the urge to touch, twist or play with your fresh cartilage piercing. Constant touching can introduce bacteria into the area and prolong the healing process. Wearing headphones or covering your ears with hats may also cause friction that can irritate and potentially delay healing. Keep any foreign objects away from your piercing until it has completely healed.

When sleeping, try using a travel-sized pillow or donut-shaped pillow to avoid putting pressure on your piercing. This can help reduce the risk of bumping the area accidentally or causing irritation during sleep.

3.Monitor for Infection

Keep an eye out for any signs of infection while your cartilage piercing heals. Common symptoms include redness, swelling, pain, discharge (pus), and an unpleasant odor coming from the pierced area. If you notice any of these symptoms, consult with a professional piercer or healthcare provider immediately for appropriate treatment.

In conclusion, proper care and maintenance are key to a healthy and quick healing process for your cartilage piercing. By following these three simple steps: keeping the piercing clean, avoiding unnecessary contact, and monitoring for infection, you can enjoy your new accessory without any hassle. With patience and diligence, your cartilage piercing will heal beautifully in no time.
