Oil stains on shoes can be quite an eyesore, especially on your favorite pair. It’s essential to promptly try to remove the oil as soon as possible to avoid it spreading or setting in. Fortunately, with a few household items and a little persistence, you can remove those pesky oil stains and get your shoes looking like new again. In this article, we will discuss three easy ways to get oil out of shoes.

1. Baking Soda and Vinegar Method

One effective way to lift an oil stain from your shoes is by using baking soda and vinegar. Here’s how:

Materials needed:

– Baking soda

– White vinegar

– Water

– Old toothbrush

– Soft cloth

Instructions:

1. Gently dab any excess oil from the shoe using a soft cloth.

2. Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda onto the oil stain and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

3. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a small container.

4. Dip the old toothbrush into the vinegar solution and gently scrub the baking soda-covered area in a circular motion.

5. After scrubbing, rinse the area with water and let air dry.

6. Repeat the process if necessary until the oil stain disappears.

2. Talcum Powder and Dish Soap Method

Another cleaning solution that you can use is talcum powder and dish soap.

Materials needed:

– Talcum powder (baby powder)

– Dish soap

– Water

– Soft cloth

– Old toothbrush

Instructions:

1. Dab away excess oil from the shoe using a soft cloth.

2. Cover the oil stain with talcum powder and let it sit for 30 minutes.

3. Gently brush away the talcum powder with an old toothbrush.

4. Mix one teaspoon of dish soap with warm water in a small container.

5. Dip the toothbrush into the soapy water and scrub the affected area in a circular motion.

6. Rinse the area with water and let air dry.

7. If needed, repeat the process until the oil stain is fully removed.

3. Cornstarch and Rubbing Alcohol Method

Cornstarch and rubbing alcohol can also be helpful in removing oil stains from shoes. Follow these steps:

Materials needed:

– Cornstarch

– Rubbing alcohol

– Water

– Soft cloth

– Old toothbrush

Instructions:

1. Remove excess oil from the shoe with a soft cloth.

2. Sprinkle a generous amount of cornstarch on the stain and let sit for an hour.

3. Gently brush away the cornstarch with an old toothbrush.

4. Dampen a soft cloth with rubbing alcohol and gently dab the stained area.

5. Scrub the area with the old toothbrush in a circular motion.

6. Rinse the shoe with water, and let it air dry.

7. If necessary, repeat these steps until there is no trace of oil left.

Conclusion

Using any of these three easy methods, you can successfully remove oil stains from your shoes – no need to throw them away or feel embarrassed by their appearance anymore! Just follow the instructions carefully and be patient while treating your shoes to get the best results possible. Happy cleaning!
