As Volkswagen prepares to mark the 20th anniversary of its renowned Golf R, a classic feature is set to make a grand comeback: manual transmission. This highly-anticipated offering comes as welcome news for driving enthusiasts in North America, harking back to a time when gear-shifting was an integral part of the motoring experience.

Since its inception in the early 2000s, the VW Golf R has always stood out as a versatile, high-performance vehicle. Over the years, it has undergone numerous transformations, but none have been as eagerly anticipated as this latest edition. Celebrating two decades of success, Volkswagen is bringing back manual transmission for its loyal fanbase in North America to relive the excitement and control associated with this sought-after feature.

For many drivers, using manual transmission holds a nostalgic appeal, as it invokes memories of handling every aspect of their car’s performance by skillfully switching gears. In contrast to automatic transmissions that have largely dominated the market in recent years, returning to manual operations allows motorists to enjoy a more engaging and immersive driving experience.

The 20th anniversary edition of the VW Golf R promises not only the opportunity to revel in traditional manual transmission but also boasts a range of other notable features. As the flagship model of Volkswagen’s popular hatchback lineup, this Seventh-generation Golf R comes equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.

Further enhancing its fantastic driving capabilities are all-wheel drive and a range of suspension refinements that guarantee superior performance on the road. Outside, distinct visual elements such as redesigned bumpers, aggressive air intakes, and custom alloy wheels reinforce this special edition’s status as an extraordinary ride.

Inside the cabin, occupants are treated to premium materials and supportive sport seats, resulting in exceptional comfort throughout each journey. The infotainment system offers seamless connectivity to modern devices, ensuring that both driver and passengers remain entertained and informed during their travels.

In its 20th anniversary edition, the VW Golf R masterfully blends the past with the present, combining the highly sought-after manual transmission option with a range of contemporary features designed to dazzle car enthusiasts in North America. By bestowing this commemorative model with an iconic touch, Volkswagen has affirmed its commitment to meeting the diverse needs of its customers while looking toward another 20 years of excellence.
