2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 Tested: More Beef with Little Trade-off

The 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 is the latest entry in the luxury SUV market, setting benchmarks for style, performance, and efficiency. We recently had the opportunity to put this powerful machine to the test, evaluating its numerous improvements over previous models. The outcome? More beef with little trade-off.

Under the Hood

The GLE53 draws its power from a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine paired with a 48-volt EQ Boost hybrid system. This impressive duo generates an ample 429 horsepower and 384 lb-ft of torque. The nine-speed automatic transmission makes gear shifts smooth and efficient, while the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system ensures excellent traction and control.

Performance and Handling

Hitting the highway in mere seconds thanks to a rapid 0-60 mph time of just 5.2 seconds, the GLE53 proved its prowess on straightaways as well as on winding roads. The vehicle’s air suspension intelligently adapts to road conditions, providing comfort without compromising on agility. Cornering is equally impressive, with minimal body roll and responsive steering that allows drivers to feel confidently connected to the road.

Fuel Economy

Despite its impressive power output and substantial size, the GLE53 manages to maintain respectable fuel efficiency. It owes much of this success to the mild-hybrid system onboard that provides assistance during acceleration and recuperates energy while decelerating. Official EPA estimates rate it at 18 mpg city/23 mpg highway/20 mpg combined.

Interior Design and Comfort

As expected from Mercedes-Benz, the interior of the GLE53 is a masterclass in luxury and refinement. High-quality materials adorn every surface and generously padded seats offer unmatched comfort on long drives. The vehicle’s cabin remains quiet even at high speeds, thanks to advanced sound insulation and an active noise-cancellation system.

The latest MBUX infotainment system, complemented by a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, offers endless connectivity options, including Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and built-in navigation. Optional features like the augmented reality head-up display further enhance the GLE53’s high-tech appeal.

Safety Features

The 2024 GLE53 comes loaded with a comprehensive suite of safety features that include adaptive cruise control, active lane assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automated emergency braking, and a surround-view camera system. With an array of driver assistance systems available as standard or optional equipment, occupants can feel protected and secure.

Conclusion

In conclusion, our test drive of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 revealed an SUV that deftly balances performance and luxury with minimal compromise. This powerful but eco-conscious vehicle offers exceptional handling and comfort to satisfy both enthusiastic drivers and discerning passengers alike. The latest model makes one thing abundantly clear: Mercedes-Benz continues to redefine what it means to be at the cutting edge of automotive excellence.
