Introduction:

The midsize pickup truck market has always been a fierce battleground between top contenders like the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet Colorado. With the generation of 2023 models rolling out, there’s no better time to pit these rivals against each other in a head-to-head comparison. In this article, we will analyze the 2023 Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado in terms of performance, towing capacity, fuel efficiency, technology, and pricing.

Performance:

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma is powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 159 horsepower and a 3.5-liter V6 with 278 horsepower. The Ford Ranger features a 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with an impressive output of 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the Chevy Colorado comes with three engine choices: a standard 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 200 horsepower, an optional 3.6-liter V6 producing 308 horsepower, and a turbo-diesel Duramax® I-4 putting out 181 horses.

Towing Capacity:

When properly equipped, the Toyota Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds while the Ford Ranger tops out at an impressive 7,500 pounds. The Chevy Colorado eclipses both with its maximum towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds when paired with the diesel engine.

Fuel Efficiency:

In terms of gas mileage, the Toyota Tacoma’s base engine averages EPA-rated fuel efficiency of up to 20 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The Ford Ranger boasts an efficient fuel economy for its class with ratings of up to 21 city/26 highway mpg. The Chevy Colorado is also competitive in this race as its Duramax® diesel engine offers an estimated fuel economy of 20 city/30 highway mpg.

Technology:

All three trucks come equipped with modern technology features. The2023 Tacoma comes standard with Toyota’s Safety Sense P (TSS-P) suite of advanced safety features and a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, while Ford’s Co-Pilot360 and SYNC3 infotainment system are standard on the Ranger. Chevrolet offers the Colorado with its Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a variety of driver assistance features.

Pricing:

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma’s starting price is expected to be around $27,000 for the base model. The Ford Ranger’s base price should be close to $26,000, while the Chevy Colorado comes in at a slightly lower starting price of approximately $25,000.

Conclusion:

In this truck comparison, each of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet Colorado offer distinct advantages that cater to different consumer needs. Depending on your preferences in terms of performance, towing capability, fuel efficiency, or pricing – any one of these trucks can be a viable contender for your next purchase. We recommend taking each for a test drive to find out which midsize pickup best meets your specific needs and desires.
