1. Cool the burn: Once you have assessed the severity of the burn, gently run cold water over the affected area for about 10 minutes. Avoid using ice, as it may cause further damage to the skin.

2. Remove clothing or jewelry: Carefully remove any clothing or jewelry near the burn area, taking care not to worsen the injury.

3. Apply a wet cloth: Place a clean, damp cloth on the burn to help reduce pain and swelling. Replace the cloth as needed throughout the day for comfort.

4. Elevate the affected area: Keep the burned area raised above heart level when possible to minimize swelling.

5. Apply aloe vera gel: Gently apply aloe vera gel on the burn to soothe and moisturize your skin. Avoid applying ointments that can trap heat or cause an infection.

6. Honey: Due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, honey can be used as a home remedy for second-degree burns. Dab a small amount of honey on a sterile bandage and carefully place it on your burn.

7. Over-the-counter pain relievers: Use over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen to ease pain and inflammation.

8. Hydrogel dressings: Consider applying a hydrogel dressing to provide relief from pain and itching while also protecting your skin.

9. Keep the wound clean: Cleanse your wound daily with mild soap and water before reapplying new dressings or gels.

10. Don’t break blisters: Resist the temptation to break any blisters that may form on your burn, since this increases your risk of infection.

11. Watch for infection signs: Keep an eye out for increased redness, pus drainage, excessive pain, or an unpleasant odor around your burn; these may be signs of infection and require medical attention.

12. Seek medical advice: If your burn symptoms worsen, consult with a healthcare professional for guidance or a possible prescription for antibiotic cream.

13. Follow-up care: After your burn has healed, take care of your skin by applying sunscreen and using moisturizers. This can help with scarring and protect the sensitive skin from further damage.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
