From its humble beginnings as a cult television series, Star Trek has boldly gone where few franchises have gone before, expanding into a formidable film series. Here’s a ranking of the 13 Star Trek movies by their box office performance, from worst to best:

.Star Trek V:The Final Frontier (1989) –Often regarded as the weakest entry in the film series, it struggled due to poor critical reception and competed against other blockbuster films during its release.

.Star Trek:The Motion Picture (1979) –As the first movie, it had a lukewarm box office performance, though it has since gained more appreciation from fans.

.Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) –Following the highly successful second film, this third installment performed modestly in comparison.

.Star Trek:Generations (1994) –This film saw the passing of the torch from the original crew to The Next Generation cast but didn’t quite resonate at the box office as might have been expected.

.Star Trek: Insurrection (1998) – Faced with lukewarm reviews and competing franchises, this ninth film in the series had an underwhelming performance.

.Star Trek: Nemesis (2002) –Despite being positioned to reinvigorate the franchise, Nemesis fell short of expectations at the box office.

.Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) –This film was a return to form critically but didn’t quite make waves financially, despite being a solid entry.

.Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) –Considered by many as the best Star Trek movie qualitatively, it was also a box office success that rejuvenated interest in the franchise.

.Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (1986) –With its environmental message and lighter tone, this film attracted a wide audience and fared very well financially.

.Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) –The second installment of the rebooted series directed by J.J. Abrams proved to be quite successful at the box office, even though it received a mixed reception from die-hard fans.

.Star Trek Beyond (2016) –Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the franchise, Beyond performed solidly thanks to its action-packed narrative and homage to the original series.

.Star Trek (2009) –J.J. Abrams’ reboot of the franchise brought in new fans and revitalized interest in Star Trek lore with impressive box office numbers.

.Star Trek: First Contact (1996) –Arguably the high point for The Next Generation films, First Contact was both a critical and financial triumph and stands as the best-performing Star Trek movie at the box office.

This list captures not just a sequence of numbers but also reflects on how different eras of storytelling and fan interests have shaped this iconic series’ financial voyages across decades on the big screen.
