Fans have witnessed countless epic encounters over the decades, but some fights stand out for their impact on the series and their popularity among the audience. Here’s a look at 12 of the best Dragon Ball fights of all time, spanning from the original Dragon Ball series through Dragon Ball Z and onto Dragon Ball Super.

1. Goku vs Frieza (Dragon Ball Z)

This is perhaps the most iconic fight in all of anime. The battle between Goku and the tyrant Frieza on Planet Namek showcased not only raw power but also incredible perseverance as it led to Goku’s first transformation into a Super Saiyan.

2. Gohan vs Cell (Dragon Ball Z)

Witnessing young Gohan release his full potential and become a Super Saiyan 2 was a pivotal moment in DBZ. His Kamehameha clash with Cell’s was monumental, rounding up the Cell Saga with an emotional high.

3. Goku vs Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)

Their first fight in the Saiyan Saga is etched in fans’ memories. It introduced Vegeta’s ruthless nature and Goku’s unyielding spirit, marking the beginning of a long-standing rivalry and eventual friendship.

4. Vegito vs Buu (Dragon Ball Z)

The fusion between Goku and Vegeta created Vegito, a warrior with unfathomable strength. His fight against Majin Buu mixed humor with raw power, presenting one of the most entertaining duels in the series.

5. Goku vs Jiren (Dragon Ball Super)

Towards the end of the Tournament of Power, fans were treated to an outstanding battle between Universe 7’s Goku and Universe 11’s Jiren. This fight pushed Goku to new limits, culminating in his Ultra Instinct form.

6. Future Trunks vs Frieza (Dragon Ball Z)

Future Trunks’ unforgettable debut showed him easily slicing Frieza into pieces and signaling a new era with his Super Saiyan form – marking him as a character to be reckoned with.

7. Piccolo vs Android 17 (Dragon Ball Z)

The intense battle between these two demonstrated Piccolo’s abilities post-Kami fusion. Despite being outpowered initially, Piccolo’s strategy and resilience shone through this evenly matched fight.

8. Broly vs Gogeta (Dragon Ball Super: Broly)

The non-stop action and splendid animation make Broly’s fight with Gogeta a standout brawl showing off what modern Dragon Ball looks like at its best.

9. Goku vs Majin Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)

Vegeta’s fall from grace while under Babidi’s spell led to one of the most emotionally charged duels as he battled his rival Goku, questioning his own identity in the process.

10. Krillin, Piccolo & Gohan vs Nappa (Dragon Ball Z)

This desperate attempt to hold off Nappa while waiting for Goku showcased teamwork and marked Gohan’s first steps toward becoming a fighter like his father.

11. Android 18 vs Vegeta (Dragon Ball Z)

Android 18 not only proved her power by breaking Vegeta’s arm but also demonstrated that there were higher levels of strength that our heroes had yet to achieve.

12. Beerus vs Goku (Dragon Ball Super)

The encounter with God of Destruction Beerus brought about another transformation for Goku — Super Saiyan God — highlighting just how vast the universe was beyond Earth-bound foes.

Each battle has its place in Dragon Ball history for its storytelling, dramatic tension, or animation quality — contributing to why this series remains beloved by fans around the world.
