We’ve all been there: it’s late at night, and your phone buzzes with an unexpected text message. Upon opening it, you realize it’s from a friend who is clearly under the influence. Navigating this potentially awkward situation can be tricky, but fear not! Here are 11 simple ways to reply to a drunk text.

1. Respond with humor: A lighthearted response can help diffuse the situation while allowing your friend to save face. For example, “Haha, looks like someone’s having a fun night!”

2. Offer support: If the person seems emotional or upset, offer a few kind words like, “Hey, I’m here for you if you need to talk.”

3. Redirect the conversation: Change the subject by asking about something unrelated like, “Did you catch the game tonight?”

4. Send a meme or GIF: A funny picture can sometimes say more than words and can make light of their slip-up without embarrassing them.

5. Keep it short and sweet: Let them know you got their message without engaging in a lengthy conversation by responding with something brief like, “Cool” or “Got it.”

6. Ignore it: If their message seems harmless but not worth responding to, simply let it slide.

7. Reply in the morning: Giving them some time to sober up could lead to less embarrassment and regret.

8. Be honest: If their behavior is becoming an issue, gently confront them with concern for their well-being by saying something like, “Hey, this is happening frequently; should we talk about it?”

9. Be gentle if they tried flirting: If they made an inappropriate or romantic advance towards you, try brushing it off kindly instead of putting them down or ignoring them entirely.

10. Offer encouragement to get home safely: Ensure your friend’s well-being by asking who drove them or if they have a ride home.

11. Reach out to their friends: If you’re worried about their safety or if the message is alarming, don’t hesitate to contact one of their friends who may be with them for more information.

Remember, everyone makes mistakes, and your response can help maintain the friendship by keeping the situation lighthearted and positive. Keep these tips in mind the next time you receive a drunk text and choose the best approach based on your friend’s needs and the specific circumstances.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
