1. Remain calm: Before addressing the issue at hand, it’s crucial to remain calm and avoid being defensive. This helps set the stage for a rational and constructive conversation.

2. Practice active listening: Allow each person to share their point of view without interrupting them. Truly listen to what they’re saying, and try to understand their feelings and perspective.

3. Establish ground rules: Before engaging in difficult conversations, set some ground rules such as taking turns speaking, avoiding personal attacks, and banning name-calling.

4. Keep the focus on “I” statements: Encourage everyone involved in the disagreement to share their feelings using “I” statements rather than blaming others or making generalized statements.

5. Find common ground: Seek out areas of agreement where possible. This helps solidify the idea that you are all working together towards a resolution, making it easier to find a solution.

6. Offer apologies when appropriate: Be willing to admit when you’re wrong or inadvertently contributed to the family fight. A heartfelt apology goes a long way in promoting understanding and forgiveness among family members.

7. Suggest working together: Encourage everyone involved in the disagreement to actively work towards finding a peaceful resolution by collaborating and compromising where necessary.

8. Remember that family comes first: At times of conflict, remind everyone that family is more important than any disagreement or difference in opinion, which can help instill a sense of unity and promote reconciliation.

9. Take breaks if needed: Sometimes emotions run too high for progress to be made on ending a family fight immediately. If that’s the case, suggest taking a break for everyone to cool down before resuming discussions later on.

10. Seek professional help if necessary: When conflicts become too intense or unresolved for an extended period of time, it might be beneficial to involve an unbiased professional like a therapist or counselor who can provide guidance on communication strategies and finding a resolution.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
