Switzerland, known for its breathtaking landscapes and high-quality life, boasts some of the most picturesque small towns in the world. Each of these towns offers unique experiences, stunning scenery, and exquisite accommodations. Here are the 10 most beautiful small towns in Switzerland and their best hotels.

1. Zermatt – Best known for its skiing, mountaineering, and the mighty Matterhorn, Zermatt is a car-free village that oozes charm. The Omnia is the jewel in the town’s crown, with its mountain lodge inspired architecture and an entrance via a tunnel followed by an elevator ride up to the lobby.

2. Morcote – Morcote is situated on the shores of Lake Lugano and is recognized for its arcades, alleyways, and historic buildings. The Hotel Swiss Diamond offers luxury lakeside accommodation and provides an ideal base from which to explore this architectural haven.

3. Grimentz – This town looks like a page from a storybook, known for its well-preserved granaries and rustic houses. Hotel Meleze provides a warm and intimate setting that’s perfectly in sync with Grimentz’s alpine charm.

4. Guarda – With its brightly painted houses decorated with sgraffito (a scratchboard style art form), Guarda is quintessentially Swiss. The Romantik Hotel Guardaval immerses guests in history with beautifully decorated rooms that reflect local traditions.

5. Wengen – Accessible only by train, this car-free village offers stunning views of the Jungfrau region. The Beausite Park Hotel is renowned for its Eiger views and classic Swiss elegance.

6. Gruyères – Famous for cheese and medieval architecture, Gruyères’ historical narrative is complemented by La Fleur de Lys – a hotel housed in a building over 400 years old that feels like stepping back in time.

7. Spiez – Located on the shores of Lake Thun, Spiez is postcard-perfect with its vineyards and castle. The Eden Spiez provides tranquil lake views and spa facilities that make it perfect for relaxation.

8. Ascona – This lakeside town on Lake Maggiore blends Swiss charm with Italian flair. The seven-room boutique hotel Casa Berno offers panoramic views from each room’s balcony or terrace.

9. Stein am Rhein – Known for its well-preserved medieval buildings with intricate frescoes, Stein am Rhein offers up history at every turn. Hotel Adler is a delightful place to stay here, giving visitors a taste of tradition combined with modern comforts.

10. Arosa – A popular alpine resort town with trails leading into thick forests and serene lakes around. Tschuggen Grand Hotel stands out with its exclusive Bergoase spa designed by Mario Botta offering luxury accommodation in harmony with nature’s tranquility.

Exploring these enchanting small towns is not just about experiencing Switzerland’s astounding natural beauty but also enjoying a stay at accommodations that enhance the charm of each location.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
