The resurgence of the Metroidvania genre in gaming has brought with it a plethora of fantastic titles that blend exploration, action, and platforming. These games often feature vast interconnected worlds and an emphasis on player discovery through gradual acquisition of skills or items. Budget-conscious gamers have plenty to celebrate as many of these gems come at an affordable price. Here are 10 of the best Metroidvania games you can dive into for under $15:

.Hollow Knight – Traverse the vast, interconnected underworld of Hallownest in this beautifully hand-drawn adventure. With its challenging gameplay, intricate environments, and hidden secrets, Hollow Knight offers immense value.

.Axiom Verge – A love letter to classic Metroid titles, Axiom Verge wows with its retro aesthetic and innovative weapon mechanics. Unravel the mysteries of an alien world filled with bizarre creatures and lethal environments.

.Guacamelee! – This colorful title stands out with its luchador-themed combat and unique dimension-swapping mechanic. Guacamelee! superbly blends platforming and melee combat set against a vibrant Mexican-inspired backdrop.

.Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition – Ori’s quest is one filled with breathtaking visuals and deeply emotive storytelling. Navigate fiendish puzzles and upgrade your abilities to restore the forest of Nibel.

.Dead Cells – Mixing rogue-lite elements with Metroidvania-style progression, Dead Cells delivers intense action with its fast-paced combat and procedurally-generated levels ensuring no two runs are ever the same.

.Shantae: Risky’s Revenge – Director’s Cut – Join Shantae in her whimsical world filled with dance-based transformations and quirky characters as she battles the nefarious pirate Risky Boots in this charming 2D platformer.

.SteamWorld Dig 2 – Dig deep into the ground with mining robot Dorothy in search of her lost friend. SteamWorld Dig 2 perfects its dig-and-collect gameplay loop with refined mechanics and a richly crafted world.

.Sundered: Eldritch Edition – Battle eldritch horrors in this chaotic hand-drawn epic that will test your resolve. Sundered melds gorgeous visuals with frantic combat as you explore its ever-shifting landscape.

.Outland – In Outland, players switch between light and dark energies to defeat enemies and overcome obstacles in a stunningly designed world that pays homage to classic platformers while introducing unique gameplay elements.

.The Messenger – A tribute to both 8-bit and 16-bit gaming eras, The Messenger begins as a straightforward platformer before evolving into a time-traveling Metroidvania adventure loaded with sharp humor and fluid action.

These games prove that high-quality Metroidvania experiences aren’t exclusive to high-budget titles; they’re also found within more modest indie productions that pack a punch without breaking the bank.
