1. National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH)

NAEH is primarily focused on policy advocacy and collaborates with other organizations to push for changes in the policies and systems contributing to homelessness. NAEH provides data analysis, technical assistance, and recommendations to help local communities address homelessness effectively.

2. The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is a global organization that has been consistently providing shelter, meals, clothing, medical care, and other necessities to homeless individuals and families in need for more than 150 years. They operate various programs targeting specific needs like addiction recovery, job training, and disaster relief efforts.

3. Feeding America

Feeding America is the largest hunger-relief organization in the United States. Through their network of food banks, they distribute over 4 billion meals annually to people facing food insecurity, including the homeless community.

4. Project HOME

Project HOME fights homelessness by addressing housing insecurity through building affordable homes, providing support services and employment opportunities to individuals in need. Their programs focus on education, healthcare, and community building initiatives.

5. Covenant House

Covenant House is dedicated to helping homeless youth escape life on the streets by providing essential services such as emergency shelter, supportive housing, education and job training programs, medical care, legal assistance, and counseling.

6. The Bowery Mission

Operating since 1879 in New York City’s Lower East Side neighborhoods, The Bowery Mission offers comprehensive services including meal programs, clothing distribution, emergency shelter beds, transitional housing units, and special programs for homeless women in addition to career planning centers.

7. Homeless Prenatal Program (HPP)

HPP focuses on assisting expectant mothers experiencing homelessness by providing prenatal care as well as housing support services including eviction prevention assistance and transitional housing access for new families experiencing housing instability.

8. Family Promise

Family Promise operates a national network of affiliates aiming to keep homeless families together by providing comprehensive support for the entire family unit, ranging from temporary shelter to job training, education, and assistance with locating permanent housing.

9. Housing Works

Housing Works is an organization operating in New York City that aims to end both homelessness and HIV/AIDS. They provide a range of services such as housing solutions, healthcare, legal assistance, mental health support, and job training focusing on those affected by the dual crises of homelessness and HIV/AIDS.

10. Downtown Women’s Center (DWC)

DWC is a Los Angeles based organization providing comprehensive services to homeless women since 1978. The center offers permanent supportive housing, job training, health and wellness programs, as well as a drop-in center where women can access meals, showers, clothing distribution, and case management services.

Each of these ten charities has made a significant impact in addressing homelessness across the country through a variety of methods tailored to specific needs.
