10 Best Anime That Are Actually Better Than Their Original Manga

Anime has long been considered a visual splendor that can enhance the already fantastic storytelling found in manga. Some anime adaptations have managed to outshine their manga counterparts by using the advantages of the medium—such as voice acting, animation, and music—to their fullest. Here are 10 anime that, according to many fans, are actually better than the original manga:

1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – Considered a masterpiece, Brotherhood faithfully adapts the entire manga and brings the story to life with fluid animation, exceptional voice acting, and an unforgettable soundtrack.

2. Hunter x Hunter (2011) – The 2011 adaptation of Yoshihiro Togashi’s manga is praised for its pace, animation quality, and more in-depth development of characters and story arcs.

3. Gintama – The anime takes the source material to another level with its perfect comic timing, delivering an experience that the manga alone could not capture.

4. Attack on Titan – The anime adaptation has been lauded for its intense action sequences and pacing that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

5. Your Lie in April – This touching story is enhanced by its anime adaptation through mesmerizing musical performances that bring the characters’ emotions to life.

6. Haikyu!! – Haikyu!!’s animation captures every spike and dive with great intensity, making it gripping from start to finish.

7. Mob Psycho 100 – Studio Bones elevated ONE’s original work with fluid and dynamic animation that highlights both the comedic and dramatic aspects of Mob’s story.

8. Steins;Gate – The anime amplifies an already compelling storyline with excellent pacing, atmosphere-building direction, and an emotive voice cast.

9. Hellsing Ultimate – With a richer storyline and more intense action than the original anime series (which diverged from the manga), Hellsing Ultimate is closer to Hirano’s manga and surpasses it with high-quality OVAs.

10. K-On! – The anime adds depth to the characters through voice acting and detailed animation while building upon the existing material to create a more comprehensive high school experience.

The art of animation offers so many creative avenues that sometimes even author-revered mangas are outshone by their animated counterparts. The above list exemplifies how an animated series can eclipse its source material when given proper care in adaptation.
