Horror fans are no strangers to the spine-chilling, edge-of-the-seat experiences that the genre promises. Pacing is crucial in horror films, and there’s something uniquely compelling about a story that manages to deliver its thrills in a concise 90 minutes or less. Here are ten of the best 90-minute horror movies, ranked for your eerie viewing pleasure.

10.Creep (2014) – A found-footage film that distills fear from realism. Mark Duplass stars as a disturbing character who hires a videographer to film him under the pretense of creating a memoir. It’s intense and unsettling.

9.The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016) – This claustrophobic horror-thriller follows coroners father-and-son team as they uncover unusual and increasingly terrifying secrets about an unidentified body.

8.Hush (2016) – A unique take on the home invasion sub-genre with a deaf-mute protagonist. The suffocating silence of the film wraps around you as the tension relentlessly builds.

7.The Evil Dead (1981) – Sam Raimi’s cult classic packs gore, terror, and dark humor into its brief runtime, establishing itself as an influential work in horror cinema.

6.Lights Out (2016) – Exploiting everyone’s primal fear of darkness, this movie centers on a malevolent entity that only appears when lights go off, crafting scares out of simple, yet effective cinematic techniques.

5.V/H/S (2012) – An anthology that brings together various horrifying shorts tied together by a framing story, V/H/S is ideal for those with a love for lo-fi scares and diverse storytelling.

4.28 Days Later… (2002) – Although it stretches just slightly beyond 90 minutes at approximately 113 minutes, this Danny Boyle-directed apocalyptic tale is too superb to leave off the list, offering high-intensity thrills and thought-provoking themes.

3.[Rec] (2007) – This Spanish-language film uses found footage to exceptional effect, telling the story of a quarantined apartment building overrun by an unknown virus with horrific consequences.

2.The Babadook (2014) – Not only hair-raising but also profoundly emotional, Jennifer Kent’s superbly crafted tale delves into grief and maternal struggle through the lens of psychological horror.

1.Psycho (1960) – Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece remains undefeated in impact, laying down foundations for slasher films and psychological thrillers to come; it’s a piece of cinematic history whose influence resonates throughout the genre.

In conclusion, these tightly-knit tales showcase how effective horror can be when not a second of screen time is wasted. From psychological terrors to blood-curdling slashers, these 90-minute masterpieces stand tall in the annals of horror greatness.
