If you have ever faced the issue of your printer going offline in Windows 10, you know how frustrating it can be. The printer is an essential and frequently used device that needs to function properly. However, there could be several reasons why your printer is going offline, such as connection issues, network problems, outdated software, and others. In this article, we have listed some effective fixes that can help you get your printer back online quickly.

1.Check Printer Connections

If your printer is not connected correctly, it might go offline. Check all the cables and plugs, including the power cable, USB cable, Ethernet cable, and others. Ensure that they are properly plugged in, and there is no damage to the cable. You can also try connecting the printer to a different USB port or using a different cable to confirm the issue.

2.Restart the Spooler Service

The spooler service on your computer is responsible for managing printer tasks. If the printer spooler is not running correctly, your printer might go offline. To restart the spooler service, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.

Step 2: Type “services.msc” and press enter.

Step 3: Locate the Print Spooler service from the list and right-click on it.

Step 4: Select “Restart” from the dropdown menu. If the service is not running, click on “Start.”

Step 5: Wait for a few seconds, and the spooler service will restart.

After restarting the spooler service, check if your printer is still offline.

3.Update Printer Drivers

Outdated or incompatible printer drivers can also cause the printer to go offline. To update the printer drivers, follow these steps:

Step 1: Press the Windows key + X and select “Device Manager.”

Step 2: Locate the “Printers” option and click on the dropdown arrow to expand it.

Step 3: Right-click on the printer and select “Update driver.”

Step 4: Follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest drivers for your printer.

After updating the printer driver, check whether your printer is back online or not.

4.Remove and Re-Add Printer

If none of the above methods work, you can try removing the printer and re-adding it to resolve the offline issue.

Step 1: Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

Step 2: Click on “Devices” and then select “Printers & Scanners.”

Step 3: Locate the printer from the list and click on it.

Step 4: Click on “Remove Device.”

Step 5: Wait for a few seconds and then click on “Add a printer or scanner.”

Step 6: Select your printer from the list and click on “Add device.”

After re-adding the printer, try printing a test page to see if it is back online.
