Introduction:

Tying a Jiu-Jitsu belt correctly is essential both for appearance and for ensuring that your belt stays secure during training sessions. The process might seem complicated at first, but with practice and following these 11 steps, you will become an expert in no time.

Step 1: Find the center of your belt

Hold one end of the belt in each hand. Extend your arms out, so you have the entire length of the belt stretched in front of you. Find the middle point and place it on your navel.

Step 2: Wrap the belt around your waist

Pull both ends around your back, crossing them at your back. Bring them back to the front and make sure they are even in length.

Step 3: Cross the ends over each other

Take the right side over to the left side, then take the left side over to the right side. This should create an ‘X.’

Step 4: Tuck the top end underneath your belt

Take the top end from the ‘X’ shape you created earlier and tuck it underneath both layers of your belt. Pull both ends snugly to ensure they stay tight.

Step 5: Make another ‘X’

Cross the top end over to the left, and cross the bottom end over to the right. This will create another ‘X.’

Step 6: Fold up one end

Hold the new ‘X’ shape with one hand. Fold up one of its ends so that it’s pointing upwards.

Step 7: Insert the upward-pointing end through the loop

Slide the upward-pointing end into one part of that new ‘X’ shape you created earlier on top of your waist.

Step 8: Pull downwards

Poke that upward-pointing end downwards while staying within that new loop created earlier.

Step 9: Pull both ends tightly

Grasp both ends of the belt and pull them tightly. This will create a secure knot, so your belt stays put during practice.

Step 10: Check the knot

Ensure that your knot is neat, even, and centered. Adjust it if necessary.

Step 11: Practice

Tying your Jiu-Jitsu belt takes practice, so the more you do it, the better you’ll get. Practice before each training session to perfect your technique.

Conclusion:

Now you know how to tie a Jiu-Jitsu belt in 11 simple steps. Keep practicing to ensure a secure and professional appearance on the mat. Remember that having a correctly tied belt is not only essential for maintaining an appropriate appearance but also for safety during training sessions.
