In the age of smart homes, one of the most useful features is the ability to communicate with your family members within the house without having to shout from room to room. Google Nest smart hubs allow you to do just that – set up a family intercom system that can be controlled from anywhere within the home. Here are some steps to follow to set up your Google Nest smart hubs as a family intercom:

Step 1: Set up your Google Nest devices

Before you begin, make sure you have all the necessary Nest devices installed and connected to each other. This includes Nest Mini, Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, or Nest Audio speakers. All these devices must be set up with the Google Home app and linked to your Google account.

Step 2: Create Intercom groups

Once all the Google Nest devices are set up and running, the next step is to create intercom groups. You can access this feature by opening the Google Home app and selecting the ‘Intercom Groups’ option. From here, you can create new groups, change existing groups, or remove groups that aren’t required.

Step 3: Personalize intercom names

To make it easier for your family members to communicate with one another, it is recommended that you personalize the intercom names. For example, you could name the group ‘Living Room Comm’ or ‘Kitchen Talk.’

Step 4: Speak to communicate

When you are ready to communicate with someone in another room, all you have to do is say, “Hey Google, broadcast [message].” For example, “Hey Google, broadcast dinner is ready.” This message will be sent to all the Google Nest devices that are connected to the intercom group.

Step 5: Additional tips

Apart from using the intercom for verbal communication, there are a few additional tips you can use. For instance, you can type a message on the Google Home app, and it will be broadcasted over the intercom. Additionally, you can send a message to specific devices like “Hey Google, broadcast to the Kitchen Hub to bring me a cup of coffee.”

In conclusion, setting up your Google Nest smart hubs as a family intercom system is an excellent way to communicate with your loved ones seamlessly. By following the simple steps outlined above, you can enjoy a superior level of convenience within your home.
