Origami, the ancient art of paper folding, has captivated craft enthusiasts for centuries. One adorable and practical project you can create using this technique is a koala bookmark. Whether you’re a bookworm, teacher, or student, this charming bookmark will surely add personality to your reading experience. Follow these step-by-step instructions on how to make an origami koala bookmark.

Materials:

– Square origami paper (preferably grey with a white side)

– Black or grey smaller square paper (for ears)

– A black marker

– Glue stick

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare your origami paper

Choose a square origami paper, ideally in the shade of grey that represents a koala. Start by folding the paper diagonally to create a triangle with the white side facing outwards.

Step 2: Shape the head

Fold the left and right corners of the triangle upwards towards the top corner (known as a “mountain fold”). This will create a diamond shape representing the koala’s head.

Step 3: Create the koala’s eyes

With the marker, draw two small ovals in the middle of the diamond shape to represent your koala’s eyes.

Step 4: Fold the nose

Transform the top corner (the one pointing up) downwards, aligning it with the bottom edge of your diamond shape. This forms your koala’s nose.

Step 5: Reveal your koala’s mouth

Take the folded tip (koala’s nose) and make a mountain fold that extends beyond its face slightly. This lifts up part of the bookmark to reveal your koalas’ smiling mouth!

Step 6: Create and glue on ears

Cut two oval-shaped ears from black or grey paper. Apply glue and attach them to either side of your koala’s head, just above its eyes.

Step 7: Add the finishing touches

Take your black marker and add any final details, such as enhancing your koala’s eyes, drawing whiskers or adding a small smile.
Your origami koala bookmark is now complete! This delightful and useful creation is perfect for keeping track of your favorite reads. Don’t forget to experiment with various colors and paper sizes to create a whole family of koala bookmarks for yourself or as cute gifts for friends and family. Happy folding!
