A wrap skirt is a versatile and stylish wardrobe staple that can be worn by anyone, regardless of their size. This fashionable skirt is not only easy to make, but also adjustable, allowing it to fit any body type comfortably. In this article, we will guide you through the process of creating a wrap skirt that is custom-made for any size.

1. Gather Your Materials:

To begin with, you will need the following materials:

– Fabric (approximately 2-3 yards, depending on the desired length and size)

– Measuring tape

– Chalk or fabric marker

– Scissors

– Sewing machine or needle and thread

– Straight pins

– Iron and ironing board

2. Take Measurements:

First, measure your waist circumference and the desired length of the skirt. To create an accurate pattern, make sure to add an extra three inches to the waist measurement for ease and seam allowances. The additional length ensures adequate overlap when wearing the skirt.

3. Create the Pattern:

After finalizing your measurements, create a rectangle using the chalk or fabric marker on your chosen fabric. The dimensions should equal your waist measurement plus three inches in width and your desired length measurement in height.

4. Cut Out Your Skirt:

Carefully cut out the fabric along the lines you have drawn. At this point, you should have a rectangular piece of fabric that will serve as your wrap skirt.

5. Hemming:

Fold each edge of your rectangle inward by about half an inch, pressing it down with an iron as you go, and pinning them in place temporarily.

Once these edges are pinned down securely, sew along all four sides of the rectangle using a straight stitch on your sewing machine or with a needle and thread by hand.

6. Waistband Preparation:

Create a waistband that spans across your waist measurement plus six inches in length and three inches in width. This added length will be used as straps to tie the skirt comfortably around your waist.

7. Attach the Waistband:

Fold the waistband in half length-wise with the right sides of the fabric touching one another, and sew along the long edge, leaving both short ends open.

Turn the waistband right side out, press it flat, and then topstitch along each side to give it a nice finish.

Attach it to one end of your skirt by lining up its center with the top corner of your rectangle. Pin the waistband in place and sew along the edge to secure it.

8. Finishing Touches:

With your waistband attached, fold over any excess fabric from the skirt’s waist area to create an even edge, and stitch it down.

Now your wrap skirt is ready! Simply wrap it around your waist, using the waistband straps to secure it comfortably in place.

By following these eight simple steps, you can create a beautiful wrap skirt that is custom-fit for any size. Get creative by choosing various fabrics or adding embellishments for a personalized touch to this stylish piece!
