Paper swords are a fantastic and creative way to engage in imaginative play, create costumes, or simply learn the basic techniques of paper folding. With a few simple supplies, you can create a nifty paper sword that is both fun and easy to make. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to make a sword out of paper.

Materials You Will Need:

– Two pieces of A4 (8.27″ x 11.69″) paper

– Glue or clear tape

– Scissors

– Ruler

Step 1: Preparing the Paper

Start by taking one piece of A4 paper, and fold it in half lengthwise. Then, fold it in half again, so that you have a long, narrow strip. Repeat this process for the other piece of A4 paper.

Step 2: Creating the Sword Blade

Take one of the folded paper strips and cut it in half lengthwise, using your scissors. You should now have two thinner strips of folded paper. Unfold these strips and line them up one on top of the other with their short ends aligning perfectly. Apply glue or clear tape along the edge where they meet to attach the two pieces together. Once they are attached, refold the two thin strips into one single long strip.

Step 3: Strengthening the Blade

To strengthen the blade, start at one end of the long strip you have created and fold it accordion-style until you reach the other end. You can use a ruler to ensure that your folds are even and precise.

Step 4: Forming the Sword Handle

Take your second folded paper strip and measure approximately 1 inch (2.54 cm) from one end; mark this spot with your finger or pencil. Fold this 1-inch section back over itself multiple times, creating a small, thick rectangle. This will be the basis of your sword handle.

Step 5: Attaching the Handle to the Blade

With the remaining length of paper in your handle strip, wrap it tightly around one end of your sword blade. You want to make sure that you are wrapping from the thick rectangle you created in step 4, so that the handle and blade blend seamlessly together. Use glue or clear tape to secure it in place. Continue wrapping the paper around until the entire handle is covered and properly secured.

Step 6: Finishing Touches

You can further personalize and decorate your new paper sword by adding details such as jewels or colored markers. Experiment with different creativity options until you have a paper sword design that you absolutely love.

Now, with these simple steps, you have successfully constructed a sturdy and imaginative paper sword! Remember to be careful and responsible when playing with your newly crafted creation. Embark on grand adventures and enjoy the world of pretend with your very own handmade paper sword!
