A pellet trap is a useful accessory for airgun enthusiasts, providing a safe and efficient way to catch projectiles during target practice. Homemade pellet traps are not only cheaper but also customizable, allowing you to create the perfect trap for your needs. Here are seven steps to make your own pellet trap.

1.Gather materials

To create a homemade pellet trap, you will need the following materials:

– A metal or thick plastic box (at least 6 inches deep)

– Soft padding material (such as carpet scraps or old towels)

– Wooden board

– Duct tape

– Spray paint (optional)

2.Choose your box

Select a sturdy box that can withstand the impact of pellets. Metal toolboxes or plastic storage containers are ideal choices. The box should be at least 6 inches deep to adequately contain the pellets.

3.Prepare the box

Clean the box thoroughly and remove any rust or sharp edges that might damage the padding materials. If desired, spray paint the box in your preferred color, and let it dry completely before proceeding.

4.Create a cushioned backstop

Line the back of the box with soft padding material such as old towels or carpet scraps. This material will help absorb the impact of pellets and protect the back of the trap from damage. Ensure you have enough padding to create a thick layer; at least 3 inches is recommended.

5.Secure the padding

Use duct tape to secure the padding materials in place, ensuring they cover the entire back surface of the box.

6.Add wooden target holder

Cut a wooden board slightly smaller than the width of your box to serve as a target holder. Place it inside the box at an angle leaning against one side, creating a small shelf on which you can rest your targets.

7.Finalize pellet trap

Place your chosen airgun targets on top of the wooden board, and your pellet trap is ready for use. Position it at an appropriate distance, ensuring a safe shooting environment. Remember to regularly check and replace the padding materials as they become damaged and less effective at stopping pellets.

In just seven steps, you have successfully made a custom pellet trap for your target practice. This homemade solution not only saves money but also allows you to tailor the trap to your specific needs and preferences. Enjoy your safe and efficient shooting sessions with your new pellet trap!
