How to Jump from a Moving Car: 11 Steps

Escaping from a moving car is a high-risk action, one that should only be done in dire circumstances when the alternatives are far worse. Below are 11 steps to help guide you through the harrowing process. Remember, whenever possible, avoid placing yourself in such perilous situations in the first place.

1. Assess the situation: Carefully evaluate whether jumping from the car is your best option. If there is any chance of negotiation or escape at the car’s eventual destination, consider those alternatives first.

2. Slow down the vehicle: If possible, attempt to slow down the car by any means necessary. This may involve discreetly tampering with controls or distracting the driver.

3. Find an exit point: Identify an accessible door or window from which to make your exit. Ideally, choose a location on the side of the vehicle opposite oncoming traffic.

4. Prepare for impact: When planning your escape, remember that minimizing injury is key. Place both feet together and firmly on the floor, with knees slightly bent to absorb shock.

5. Protect your head and neck: Tuck your chin into your chest and wrap your arms around your head to safeguard against injury during impact.

6. Open the door or window: When you’re ready to jump, swiftly open the door or window while maintaining your protective stance described above.

7. Make a calculated leap: Instead of leaping straight outwards, which will increase speed differential and therefore risk of injury, aim to hit the ground with as little forward momentum as possible.

8. Roll upon landing: As soon as you hit the ground, execute a tuck-and-roll maneuver, shoulder first, allowing your body to disperse the force of impact evenly across a larger surface area.

9. Be alert for obstacles: Stay aware of obstacles during and after your roll to prevent further injury when coming to a stop.

10. Find cover: Once you’ve successfully evaded the car, seek immediate cover or concealment to avoid potential retaliation from the driver or others involved.

11. Seek help: Assess your injuries and prioritize medical attention if needed. If you’re able, contact the authorities immediately and provide as much information as possible about the circumstances leading up to your escape.

In conclusion, jumping from a moving car is a life-threatening action that should only ever be taken as a last resort. If faced with this terrifying prospect, remember these steps to maximize your chances of a successful and relatively unscathed escape.
